Decide to use a Surefire dual switch so don't have enough room for the backup sight

It's ok, Back up sights are over rated, and besides... you've got some on the roof of your glass.
Sweet rig BTW

Nice rifle dude.....but that trigger lock with rifle in your hands while at the range makes me cringe a little. LOL

Haha, I know man. I was in the process of heading out but the nice bit of sun light that came over the berm inspired the photos. The rifle is definitely one of my favorites I've shot. Handy as hell, reliable and was cheap to build.

"Mk18" and "cheap" don't belong in the same sentence unless "aren't" is between them. Anybody spotted a Mk18 RIS II for sale lately? They seem to have dried up completely since the summer.
That depends on what version you're building... :) I got lucky, Vltor had a deep-discount on their last CASV-EL's and Andro Corp Industries had a screaming deal on Crane-spec barrels from Ballistic Advantage. If I had to build another, I'd probably go Block 1 with a KAC RAS.

I wasnt aware that any MK18 were ever equipped with Vltor CASV? As far as I knew, they were all KAC RAS (for block 0) and RIS2 for the block 2. Ive also seen a couple KAC FF RAS but not I dont think they were that common.

The CASV was a unit purchase by several Navy EOD units on the West Coast. Similarly, there are rumors of a West Coast-variant GL/SSC that used the 10.75" KAC URX II in place of the DD RIS-II, but I've been able to find even less info on it than the CASV Mk 18.

Cool thanks. Saying that I noticed some incorrect info on that first link you posted. They reference below

"This photo of a Special Boat Services Crewman shows a Mk18 with a Meprolight sight, an old style M4A1 stock, and what might be a KAC 600m BUIS mounted backwards"

However thats not a Mepro. Its an older trijicon Acog reflex sight. Saying that, im picking fly sh!t from pepper here. LOL

Thanks for the links

Cheap to build and mk18 don't usually fall into the same sentence. Lol

Mod 0's and Sopmod Block 1's don't come out to that big a price tag, if you shop around and get lucky. I lucked out on a certain unnamed importer bringing in a DSArms clone upper with an Anchor-Harvey forge marking on the upper and a correctly spec'd 10.3" barrel. The Colt M4A1 lower I've had for a long time, and I got the Aimpoint for cheap used. Just need a Wilcox mount for it to be mo' bettah. Or I'll finally use the KAC 300m rear sight I've got and snag a 552 EoTech for a different OG look. It's the lights I have the hardest part justifying... 500$ for Surefire scout? Jeez... And god knows what the WMX's or 592's go for in Canada...

Try almost a grand in the US for the current issue Surefire M962... my M4 is getting a MacGyvered Surefire G2 with tape-switch and 6PX head that went to Afghanistan on a buddy's rifle.

I guess it depends on what you define as cheap or expensive. Its pretty subjective. A ballpark breakdown of my Colt MK18 is as follows:

-Colt LE6920 (C marked upper, Colt M4 marked lower, C marked BCG) 1400$ - 300$ for selling barrel assembly = 1100$
-Daniel Defense 10.3" barrel & RIS2 = 300$ unicorn sale price from the EE
-KAC M4QD flash hider= 100$
-KAC rear micro and 99051 front= 300$
-Surefire m600c/ Insight M3x = 350$ (surefire) or 150$ (insight)
-Magpul AFG/ Tango down= 45$ (afg) or 75$ (tango)
-LMT sopmod Gen 2= 175$ (EE)
-Eotech EXPS3= 700$ (EE)
-Eotech G33= 500$ (EE)
-Hogue grip/ A2= 30$ (hogue) or 0$ (Colt A2)
-PRI gas buster= 120$
-CQD sling mount = 100$

So while not sell your nuts expensive, it still set me back approximately 3,790$ which is H&K/ top shelf NR gun territory. Now if i were to complete the clone and buy a PEQ15/ Atpial, that price would jump by another 2 grand. Anyways, some pics of my Colt MK18 and my DDmk18 below because threads without pics are useless. The DD as it currently sits has the Geissele mount. The ADM was sold.

Damn. Now those are some costly clones. I'll admit, adding some of the options like a PEQ and correct flashlight 100% boosts the cost hugely. I went with what I did because it was the most cost effective of the options. Breaks down roughly like this:

Colt M4A1 factory lower - 1700$ complete SOCOM LE6920 rifle, upper sold for 1000$, rail sold for 200$ = 400$ lower
DSArms 10.3" Mk18 clone upper - Imported for 600$ CAD
B5 SOPMOD Enhanced - 150$ish
Carry handle rear(cut down myself) - 80$
Aimpoint CompM4 in LaRue Mount - 700$
Total of 1930$ approx for the rifle and optic. Perhaps not cheap, but considering a full BCM or DD rifle runs atleast 2000$ in Canada without sights or optics, I'd consider this a pretty effective set up for relatively affordable price given the quality of the components.

Yeah thats definitely cheaper than ive seen clones built for. In the end, it all depends on how authentic you decide to go. I mean, some people are so anal about this stuff that they will only use SU marked optics and such. The price gets totally savage when you go to that extent. LOL Anyways, nice build BTW.

Cheers and merry xmas.

Damn, those are some nice rifles you guys have! In terms of distance to target, how far out have you shot your Mk18 clones?
