Crappy end to my deer season - break in up Chilliwack Lake Road

Well, I had a fun related experience last night... got a call in the middle of the night from my neighbor saying "There's someone in your truck". 20 seconds later her husband and I were outside, having a frank discussion with the scumbag about the error of his ways. The police were quite happy to take him off our hands ten minutes later. Nicest Christmas gift the neighbors could have got me :) Catching idiots in the act is SO much more rewarding than coming back after they've fled....

Uhm, yeah. This ain't the '80s. That was 40 years ago. I wonder what the listening posts on the border would make of paintball these days? Allison Pools is 20 klicks from the lake, and used to be accessed by goat path, instead of pavement. Moose indeed exist up there, in extremely limited numbers. Hopefully no one pops them off too. The way to the Skagit is 5 klicks along the base of Mt Edgar.
Source: 4th generation Chilliwackian, that still hasn't explored the entire valley, even with my father's maps; y'all can thank him for the Pierce Lake trail:).... :( said lake is now a bit of a garbage dump.

indeed.... it's not the 80's anymore.
Pierce lake.... funny you mention that. last time i was there i was in my 20's with the belly boat and fly rods ;) I wouldn't even attempt that one as I round the corner into 50 LOL
would you happen to know if the road down to the back of chilliwack lake is open these days or did they close it at the campground area for good? message if you like.
I'd like to get back into that area one more time before I can't hike anymore.

The road was open past the campsite. I'm not sure how far though, it was dark omw in so I didn't see the parking lot for Lindeman and ended up a few km down the gravel before turning around. Saw a few trucks drive past me in the morning so I can only assume it goes for a while still...

Nicest sand ive ever seen in BC is at Chilliwack lake.

Im almost certain that's trucked in and dumped there. It's no different than White Pine Beach (sasamat lake) or many other places... If you like fake beaches, go check out Kalamalka Beach just outside of Vernon. That's a nice one.

Roads open right past depot creek to the bridge then blocked off where the ecological reserve starts. It might not be the 80’s but theirs still a lot of deer and bears in their. I got a few 130 class bucks on cam and a mid 140’s along with a lot of does fawns and smaller bucks. The last few years have been harder though with the lack of higher elevation snow not pushing the deer down and out of the back bowls. Of course the move hard when rutting but ive found better concentrations of deer in the areas I hunt with greater snowfall at elevation.I remember seeing the photo of the cow and calf moose, have not run into signs of elk but let’s face its their in the cascade range and they don’t need a passport I believe their in the back bowls of the skagit 100 percent. 45acp king you know where fancy pants lakes are?

I hope the D bag “tripped and fell” as he exited your truck...

yes, but I haven't hiked the pale face trail since the mid 90's when i lived in the area...... that place is like a little paradise that makes you want to build a cabin and stay forever.
hanging lake was always a favorite for us but these days most folks hiking that trail get mistaken for.... or are.... drug mules. LOL
My last foray back there was in 97 before my life changed due to a workplace accident and after kicking around the lake most of the day in the float tube , we got interupted by a helicopter that just hoverred 100 feet above the lake watching us LOL they never landed but we knew they were border related. The US border cuts thru hanging lake bowl with an imaginary line somewhere in the lake.

Spot of bad luck and far less than ideal...

In regards to your above statement, was that something you noticed before or after this occurrence?

Did you report it to the authorities?

Caught 2 sh!tbirds in our hunt camp last fall.
Stuff and infrastructure was vandalized and they had some of the other stuff loaded into their backpacks.
We dealt with it ourselves.
In Canada for the sort of situation we faced (and admittedly most others) there are no authorities except you.
The LEAs are ball less. 911 is a wasted call.
Petty thieves need the personal touch.

#^@!&* thieves . We leave NOTHING inside our vehicle. No loose change, sunglasses, water bottle or even a empty pop can, nothing. Some bastard still smashed the passenger window and went through the console, glove compartment and trunk. Nothing was stolen because there was nothing to steal. Cost me $300.00 to replace the glass. Lockout auto crime says the insurance ad, ya right .

You should move out of your neighborhood but Chilliwack ain’t much better, it seems...
Glad all went well. I bet it took all your self control to not resort to training!!!!!

It was very tempting to grab something out of the safe, but as a responsible and law-abiding firearm owner, I refrained. I'll tell you the story next time I see you... I did fall back on some unrelated old training to defend myself, but nothing recent :)

I don't lock my truck anymore and I don't leave anything of value. Although i did install a kill switch so it can't be stolen without a flat deck LOL
down in abby right now visitting the parents and inlaws and I think I've gone out to the visitor parking 5 times already to check on my rig. Camper backed right up to a wall so no one is getting in there.
can't wait to get back home to the interior away from all this noise and people LOL

Then I got back to my car before 4, only to find someone had smashed my front passenger side window! They opened the glove box, stole my phone charger and keys (not my car or house key, but the rest, gun locker/locks, shed, rooftop cargo carrier, etc) the empty rifle case on the front seat and MY ####ING CLOTHES! My duffel bag of clothes was on the front seat and the #######s stole it!
It looked like a quick job, they didn't even open a door. Just smash and grab what they could reach.

That's exactly what happen to my van while riding at Vedder Mtn. Chilliwack.
Smash and grab!
Rock through passenger side window went though glove compartment.
Grabbed my over night bag with personal effects. And my suit which was hanging off a hook.
Didn't take the $1000 locked tool box or other tools. Must have been too heavy.
But boy I sure felt violated!!!!

And if the cops believes the perps sob story of abuse at your hands you'll be the one getting charged and/or civilly sued by the person who robbed you.
In Canada I deal with petty theft myself and keep the cops out of it.
Too many instances up here where the perps get the benefit of the doubt over the victims.
