How about making a massive scope base (picatinny rail) that has a transverse hole that matches up with the rear sight crosspin, in the middle of the rail, near the ends, would be 2 heavy grub screws (10x32 for example) applying downward pressure on the barrel, also near the grub screw locations would be 2 clamps that strap around the barrel (like jubilee clips)to apply pressure to counteract the force of the grub screws. The whole affair would be like a see saw and obviously only suitable for scout scopes with a bit more flexibility than existing mounts, and modifications required to the rifle would be minimal. Hanh? Hanh? your thoughts? :)

Edit: idk how you would set it up to be level from front to back though. . .

Further edit: I wonder if my SMLE #1 MKIII MOJO sight could be adapted to be the basis for such a scope mount? ;)

This idea sounds good I think. IIRC, there's even an extra hole at the back of the rear sight base (it receives a screw that holds the leaf spring?), so that could be probably enough to do without the "grub screw"... Machine shop challenge, anyone?

Hmmmm, I might, MIGHT be up to the challenge if I ever get some free machine time at work. I'll try and get some numbers off of my sporter No.1 to see if it is doable. From I still have the little screw as well for the leaf spring so I should be able to take measurements from that and get something whipped together.

I'm sure it's doable one way or another....as long as you don't hope to blow the milsurp guys away with it's awesome good looks...

Tacticool No 1 Mk III? Not so much...:nest:

Dad blast it! S&K to the rescue, - they are a good company, not interested in bs exclusive marketing deals LIKE OTHER SCOPE MOUNT COMPANIES  :p :)

I would love to make one of these. . . :p

The thing is though, the S&K #1 MKIII* regular eye relief base is not really that good, I could not get it to fit on any of my SMLE's, and it requires some modifications to your wood at least.
