Theres nothing wrong with it to not make the purchase, for the money its an ok airgun.Thinking of picking up a Phantom 1000.
Reviews appear to be good but wanted to get all your opinions first.
Just looking for a cheaper high fps rifle for pest control in town.
If the 1000 is a pal rated gun then you would want .22 for sure. The extra size will reduce a lot of the self destructive tendencies for sure.
^^ self destructive tendencies? Suggesting that someone without a piece of plastic in their wallet might have the urge to shoot themself with an airgun that shoots over 500fps?
Anyway, i forgot to add, I bought a cheap ($39) centerpoint 4x32 air rifle scope on my phantom, and even with the extra juice, it has held up for nearly 3 years and probably 4000 shots fired.
I should probably mention, i gave the gun a little "tune" when i had it apart. Deburred the piston and cocking slot with sandpaper/steel wool and flattened/squared the ends of the spring on the belt sander. LIGHTLY lubed the spring and guide with motomaster moly grease and the seal with a quick squirt of aresol silicone lube. This cuts down on a lot of the "twang" in these cheaper rifles and makes them a lot nicer to shoot.
The .22 has the prevelidge to forgive slightly bad pellet placements, because of its volume. But a pellet placement completly off coarse, out of the vital spots, wont stop the quarry from takeing off despite, the calibre used.In this category 14-16fpe,of the advertised '1000"fps airguns. The .22and the .177 do not have any jaw dropping differance in performance.I prefer the .22 in low end airguns as they seem more accurate to me.Is their really much difference in energy from .177 to .22?
I already have an old 177 so was thinking of no having to change out to new ammo. But...
It will be mostly for targets but called on for pests/hunting every now and then.
You wouldnt want a .177 at 1000fps,accuracy gos out of the door, this gun though wont give you this velocity anyway in .177 with a middle weigth pellet. After much debating i think ill go with .22.
The extra energy and the improved real world accuracy is appealing even if i wont be getting 1000fps with the 22
Mwjones just saw that your from Huntsville, im in Burks Falls. Small world eh.
Ill have to get more in depth info on all the mods you talked about once i get a rifle.
The gun will be used for removing stray cats that are too smart for the live traps animal control is using and for partridge. My son will mostly be target shooting with it.
