Crossing the border with Pinned magazines

Guys discussing illegal activities is not allowed. Dont post crap about breaking the law. Consider this as a warning- posting about violating US export laws, ITAR or Canadian laws is not allowed. thanks

You can bring in pinned mags up to Canada. $100 retail maximum exemption applies. Luckily (I guess ) us Canucks can get ban-era mags for nothing, what american wants ten-rounders when they can have full capacity?:kickInTheNuts:

actually it does not........

MANY models of guns need an export permit for even a 1 CENT part

m1 carbine for instance you cannot export ANY parts. I tried to get some spring kits(legally) and 3 different US licensed exporters said state deprt says NO

that 100$ limit only applies to a few items its NOT a blanket limit...that would be too easy.....

you want the REAL answer CALL the state deprt yourself NOT customs they dont know neither does ATF

Linky?

It was posted right on the US customs link a while back, provided they aren't controlled items (receivers/barrels/stocks), they were generally GTG with it, again, as long as it was under a hundred dollars.

the controlled parts is a fairly lengthy list and is more than just stocks, barrels and receivers.

And gun parts can only be exported by a licenced exporter, regardless of whether the parts are specifically controlled or not.

pinned mags and ammo

it states in the customs brochere that you are allowed to import 5000 rounds per person...i brought 10000 rounds of ammo back last weekend between the 3 of us that went down to spokane no problems here they just asked to see the ammo and for christ sake i had to lug this into the cbsa office and they just laughed and made me pay 85$ in duty also i brought back pined ar15 mags that i converted in a hotel room buy taking the base plate off and cutting coat hangers to size they checked it out and i was good to go no problems here my man go

yeah but you are violating US export regs with the AR mags. Also I think using a coat hanger as its not "permanent" makes your mags prohibited devices.

Thanks for telling everyone you committed an offense in the US. Nice. What are you not getting about this....it is not the importation into Canada that is the issue here....it is the exportation from the US. Although Canada says you can import the ammo....currently you are not allowed to export ammo from the states without the proper paperwork. Same goes for the mags. So if you had been stopped at the border by the US Customs, you would have be arrested and if they really felt like ruining your day, taken your car, throwing you in jail and banning you from the US.

It is illegal to export AR 30 round mags from the US....period.....without DoS approval. You guys are killing me...

Yes, but also the caveat being will the DoS authorize the export licence. Try getting an export licence for collapsible AR stocks and barrels under 16 inches....the US gov is not approving them. So as Tiriaq said, not only do you have to have the export licence from DoS...the exporter has to be approved by the DoS to export....

I went to bass pro, and picked up a few Hi-caps and pinned them, and brought them up in my trunk. Is that illegal?

Those are Canadian Laws...

You broke US law and your ####ing lucky you didn't get caught by US authorities....

The simple version of what you (a non-resident alien) can legally transport in the US (and export from) when it comes to firearms, ammunition, components.. "The memories of the stuff you saw in the store"... that's about it.

You don't have to pin them magazines purchased from Bass-pro. You don't have to pay duty. You don't even have to stop at the border. Just get into the Nexus lane and step on the gas. WEEEEEEEEE!!!!

When you come back from your next trip, stop by US customs. I hear the guys on the US side will fill your hi caps with ammo if you ask nicely. Common calibers only (no 40 watt plasma ammo). Woohoo! Free ammo.

Is there a pool or bet going on how many people will incriminate themselves here? Can I join? :)
