Crossing the border with Pinned magazines

f**k #### #### ####

That's only half of the equation...CBSA does not speak on behalf of US regulations, or the agencies that enforce them

I pity the poor bastard that reads this thread and assume you people know what the f**k your talking about...

why dont you just call Canada Border services , you will get a definate asnwer from them !

It's going to be a sad day, when we lose the ability to cross the US\Canada border relatively easy, cause of a few hair brained people who can't follow some very simple rules. Perhaps the bright side will be a reduction in prostrate cancer.....

Well said. That is exactly what is at risk. People don't realize there is momentum in the US to secure the border...that will include exports. The DoS does not really care about the need for mags or parts in Canada. If they find that people are smuggling the stuff out, they will go on an enforcement spree and people will find themselves in jail, forfeit their car and banned from entry to the US...

Talk to people on the border...the US is regularly conducting departure inspections. Not random but everyone...

I have a question, does the border allow you to show up with these parts, and ask if they permit them across? I mean, show up at the office, ask if you can bring them across, if not, can they be disposed of/surrendered?

It seems like that would be asking for trouble. Before you buy anything you should determine whether 1. Are you legal to possess it as an alien? 2. Can it be exported? 3. Can it be imported?

I guess my advice is do your homework first!

I am American, I have a green card = not illegal!

If you're talking about taking mags or parts from america to canada you are wrong. A green card is irrelevant in the import/export process.
You need an export license to export. Repeated for the millionth time.

Ask the guys at Buffalo gun center, they deal with Canadians all day. They know the actual law and most importantly the spirit and the actual application of the law.

I have bought from them a lot of times, never an issue. While the laws are on the books, there is no desire for the ATF or any other agency to charge Canadian lega lgun owners with buying a few parts here or there. Only issue is with ammunition, get a small game permit to allow you to posses ammo on the other side.

Thank you for pointing this out. Some people just don't seem to get this. It is important we keep this post going so people read it and realize what is legal and what is not. There is great risk, be you a US or Canadian citizen in the illegal exportation of stuff...the US Gov plays for keeps and you might not like the impact from taking a couple mags across the border. Loose your green card, banned from entering the US....your car and some jail time to keep you interested.

I deal with cross border issues all the time. Others will pipe in as well. Your wrong. You can not legally export mags and gun parts without DoS approval. The fact that you might have gotten away with it is immaterial. It is illegal. Buffalo gun centre needs to contact the DoS and get the appropriate export licences. There are so many things wrong with your commentary. The ATF, Homeland Security and host of other agencies besides DoS are very very concerned about the exportation of mags and firearm parts. You will discover this when your theory about the regulations is put to the test on a departure inspection by the US Border Patrol....

What is considered gun parts? Anything required to make one operate? On my last trip I brought back a SideSaddle and replacement forend for my Mossberg 500. Did i break the law? Or are they just harmless accessories?

Actually, now that you mention it, can a non-res alien even possess anything gun-related (without attending an event or a hunt?) I don't think they can. What a bummer. :(

The powers that be routinely monitor these threads.
US and Canadian governments have both expressed concern about firearm related smuggling.
Here is an announcement on an open forum that an established US business is routinely selling goods (that cannot be exported without specific licences) to Canadians.
It would be a real shame if this business got prosecuted because someone on CGN just had to brag about buying controlled goods from them for export.

Department of Homeland security is gonna put you in the the gulag and shoot your dog. :D

Seriously the laws are in place, the fact that some border guards turn a blind eye to enforcment or arent aware doesnt mean that some other BATFE guy at pre screening checkpoint prior to you crossing with your illegal goods, wont haul you, detain you and charge and make you a felon.

IF YOU INSIST ON PLAYING STUPID GAMES>>> YOU WILL WIN STUPID PRIZES.

I've got to hand it to you fellows who beat your heads against the wall trying to straighten out these people who insist that they can bring all sorts of stuff into Canada. You have more patience than I will ever have.

why not go to the states and then just mail them to you here? it they get caught at the border - no skin off your sack so-to-speak ,
cannot prove it was you who mailed them to yourself.
if you get a weird letter saying border inspect. or something to that effect has a package for you - walk away.
all youre out is the cash.

all this being said, if they are pinned to 5 rounds before you mail them - I do believe they are fine for import.

meh

My parents just got back from a 3 week holiday in the US. they said that US customs was stopping all vehicles returning to Canada. US Customs asked them if they brought back anything for persons other then them selves. See there starting to look.
