Anyone familiar with Crusader’s new platform? Thoughts on the viability of investing in new semi-auto platforms given the arbitrary decision to make theoretical magazine capacity a grounds for determining classification?

Seems to be being marketed as an alternative to the Lockhart Raven (DI/AR manual of arms/parts compatibility) around the same price point.

Only downside seems to be the lack of compatibility with STANAG magazines. On their website the mitigation seems to be that the rifle will ship w/8 mags (4 double ended).

In the past (about two years ago) I had a fairly bad experience with crusader while trying to purchase a Templar. Has their customer service improved at all? Would this be a remotely worthwhile purchase or are people better off waiting to buy a Raven or Modern Sporter?

The video is posted just few hours before. No one can possibly have any opinion on a new product never sold on a market. So thank you for the marketing push, it would be better to clearly label it as one.

In terms of value - it is amazingly desperate measure in an amazingly desperate times. If it gets worse, its all going to be confiscated. If it gets better it would be a curious artifact of insane times. As for now, does it have FRT or is it just a plan to gauge interest?

But hey... the thing you need to make sure is that magazine WORKS. If you need to make it double the price, do that. Because if they are proprietary AND junk, it is all going out of the window.

Hardly a marketing push. Pretty sure I said I didn’t like Crusader given their ####ty customer service/QC track record. Legitimately curious as to whether a proprietary magazine system is even worthwhile investing in or whether money is better spent on existing platforms.

Looks very interesting!

I wonder what exactly would be the QC concern here? Considering its 99% AR parts and the only proprietary parts are the milled upper/lower and mags.... how bad could it be? Its not like we are looking at an entirely new semi auto designed in house by these guys from scratch.

What do you guys think, worth the "risk"?

Perhaps you could expand on your direct experience for those that are thinking about purchase
Not sure whether Spectre has improved since I last dealt with them. In fairness this was 2 years ago. One time waiting weeks for a response and/or some indication of my order’s status was enough despite them having my money. Eventually cancelled it and bought an R18.

I really like the look of the Templar but when looking into it found one horrible review after another along with zero or very delayed responses to emails.

The metal around one reddit posters brand new templars ejection port was so thin it broke as he was looking over the rifle for the first time.

Yeah, this is a huge reason Crypto is a better proposition - it is 99% AR parts. The question is how bad the magazine is and if upper lower are in tolerances to make trigger groups and bolt carriers to run.

That redditor was me lol, and it forever ruined the name Crusader arms for me. However i kinda like this project. Ar-15 internals, gas impingement, it seems to me that this is a much better way forward even with proprietary mags, people out here acting like theres so many better options when theres enough to count on one maybe 2 hands. The more the better in this market, especially with ar compatibility and a proven platform not proprietary bolts bolt carriers and piston systems that are different on every platform which each their own issue. The option is there to grind out the magwell for all who cant simply stand the idea of a 5 rounder over a 10 lol.

Too funny - like I said I like the templar and really want to support Canadian manufactures but the bad press just kept on coming.

After dealing with the RCMP SFSS, I can say pretty confidently say that they will determine this is an AR-15 variant. It is essentially an ATRS Modern Sporter, which in the RCMP’s opinion is an AR-10/AR-15 variant.

Good on them for going ahead and ignoring the RCMP and selling it anyway, and I hope it all works out for them, but buyer beware.
