CSA VZ-58 in 5.45x39 ??

I wish I could remember the price for the spam can I seen, but IIRC it was considerably less than a case of Czech 7.62x39. More than the cost savings though is the fact that you're getting a round that uses modern streamlined bullets and has a good 200 meters more in the way of effective range.

TSE or CSC in Calgary, can't remember which, had a couple of cans last year that went with the sale of a prohib AK-74 of some sort.

You can't judge future imported price by a tiny sample of, no doubt, "grey market" imported ammo.

There's no reason it shouldn't remain well below the price of Czech ammo except for the fact that we pay more for pretty much everything gun related here.

For example, the Americans get brand new, non-corrosive, Russian made 7.62x39 for $200/1000.

I think I would be all over a VZ carbine in 5.45 as well.

Ruger should get on the ball and make a "Mini 5.45" and there needs to be some bolt actions in that calibre as well.

Since they introduced the VZ-58, I always though this would be a good way to get something in 5.45x39 here in Canada, provided we can obtain surplus ammo at a decent price.

The good news is NRCan relaxed surplus ammo import regulations last year so getting 5.45 ought to be easier than before. No reason we shouldn't see it on the market if there is demand.

it must have been calgary shooting center, as i bought a spam can from them. have about 2600 rounds of it.

I'm just wondering if they'd bother matching the sights to the new cartridge? Do the 5.56 guns have sites calibrated for their caliber or are they the same as the 7.62x39 guns?
