CSA VZ 58 non restricted does not have chrome lined barrel!!!

My non chrome lined CZ 858 is fine, but I would really appreciate a chrome lined barrel, purely for the added corrosion resistance. I clean it religiously after shooting corrosive and have still had minor corrosion show up after a while. My SKS's on the other hand, never a hint of corrosion and I just do a basic clean on them. So for me a chrome lined barrel has become pretty important for a rifle that is fed a diet of 99 percent corrosive ammo. Any decrease in accuracy would be negligible, as I don't consider an 858 to be a precision rifle of any kind in the first place.

So, lots of talk about the accuracy you give up by going with the chrome lined bore. Any actual data? The only valid data would be a side-by-side comparison of the non-restricted length CSA rifles, no use talking about different lengths or the CZ rifles.

It was significant - like 2-3 MOA difference. I found it quite difficult to sight the CSA chrome lined barrel because of how wide the groupings were.

I don't know. Isn't it just the CZ858 barrel but chrome lined?

Check it and then you will know. Start a lead ball in the bore with a rubber hammer, push it right out the other end and then measure it, it's the only way to determine the correct size bullets for your bore.

Both of my CZ 858's have bores measuring 0.31-15" which in my books means they will never shoot well with surplus ammo. My ( chrome lined ) SKS's are even worse, they have bores averaging 0.31-35 "

It is usual to sleeve the barrel in order to chrome line it :)

PS, At the moment it's near impossible to get .312 bullets anywhere. All the 7.62 x 39 I have seen measures .310 LOL

I just check a pic I took when I sighted my chrome lined CSA, and it was a 3" grouping at 50 yards. That's shooting on a grip-pod using a red dot sight and a 3x magnifier. The accuracy of the grouping likely could have been improved had I been a better shot to begin with, so we need to account for that. I think I got a 2" grouping at 50 yards with the non-chrome lined CZ858 so the difference is 1" only, not the 2-3 I was saying earlier. Having said that, I also shot the CZ858 without a magnifier.

Out shooting my VZ58 chrome lined the other day just getting used to it as it is new to me. I was supprised at how accurate it was, as my only other experience with 7.62x39 is with an sks. I can't compare it to the 858s, but I'm pleased with the rifle so far. The finish isn't anything special, but so far it has been reliable and accurate. Hope it keeps up given the bad press! I figure you'll always get something (anything from anywhere) that was passed out the door on a Friday afternoon before a long weekend, but hopefully it isn't indicative of and overall quality decline of this product.
