Current Surplus Ammunition Costs

Anyone have experience with Barnaul 7.62x39 non-corrosive ammo?

I just shot a box of 20 through my SKS yesterday for the first time, it seems good to me. I did not clean the gun more than spraying some solvent down the barrel and running a boresnake 3 times. It did not seem dirty at all.

Barnaul however is more pricey as it costs more than 50 cents a round (with tax).

If any one had told me, a year ago, that I would have 3000 rounds of center fire ammo in my basement and still be thinking "it's not enough" I would
have said they were crazy. Maybe it is me who is crazy, now?

The cheapest I found x39 was $145 crate about 10yrs ago.
Where did you find it at $110! That was a steal!:)

A dealer had SKS rifle/ammo combos. There was no limit on the amount of ammo cases. I made several separate purchases of SKS rifles and grabbed 6 or 8 cases each time. Then I sold off the extra rifles when the price went up a bit higher.

It was less than 10 years ago but when the registry was still on. The going price was about 160/crate. I also convinced a bunch of friends that they needed an sks rifle so when they bought one, I also grabbed a few extra cases at the special price.

The store employees still think I'm a weasel.

Awesome! Wish I had even known about SKS back then, sounds like something I would have done! These are fun cheap guns but when the surplus is gone or costs too much the fun will be over or a lot more money!

What we need is for Russia to get their head straight and the flow of x39/x54 starts again. Then maybe there will be one last sale at below $200 a crate, I would get a skid!

Glad I bought 10 crates when the going was good, haven't even touched it yet as I have to use up the remainders from my previous bulk ammo purchase

Buy it cheap and stack it deep!

I would expect another $50 increase in prices from current just under $300 per case price as soon as old stock dries out.
If this is old stock then the prices should not have gone up yet, but you are likely right! What may happen then is SKS and Mosin/SVT shooters will probably slow down and shoot less, there will become an equalibrium. If Russia and the eastern blok starts shipping again the price may drop a bit, especially If our dollar recovers substantially!

Meh, havent seen the price of 22lr go down, plenty of it in stores now
Yes and as they get back to normal the price will come down a bit, always takes longer for it to come down! I and a good number of others likely have enough squirrelled away to last 1.5-2 years so can wait for sales or until it drops, if it doesn't then we have to decide if we want to continue shooting that caliber!
