Custom 270 Win. Showing some Promise

Nice rig Track, I would like to see what the velocity would be with 110 gr ttsx.

Pete, I can only imagine the velocity, probably knock off the pedals once it hits flesh or bone, leave a nice pencil size exit hole. My very first custom made rifle was a 257 Wby. with a 28" Ted Gaillard barrel (velocity of 3,705 fps). The one and only year I used a Barnes bullet (yes, the 100gr. ttsx), shot a whitetail buck and it ran well over 500 yards before dropping dead. Thank goodness for snow so that I could track the buck. Only remote microscopic specks of blood could be found. After gutting, only a pencil size entrance/exit wound. Never a Barnes bullet again!

100gr TTSX have worked well in the 25-06 I load for. Caribou, moose, elk, stone's sheep, mule deer...maybe faster isn't better, since it's only going 3280 fps

I don't think any velocity will help the Barnes, they are prone to proper expansion. Many Americans who I guided share my sentiment regarding Barnes. They're experience reflected my own and they never will use Barnes for big game hunting. I've been reloading Nosler since 1982, and never have they let me down. I never suggest to anyone to use Barnes, and to stray from.

I've killed lots of animals with Barnes bullets from .224" to .416" caliber (X, XLC, TSX, TTSX, LRX) they work good if you put them in the vitals. Friends and family have had same results as me. Have spoken to lots of happy hunters too who use Barnes in handloads and factory ammo. Large sample size

I’ve shot truck loads of game with Barnes bullets. My dad the same, my brother the same, my long time hunting partner the same. They kill decisively. Unless you miss.

Gary,
Great looking rifle.
Should be excellent for any ALBERTA game!!

I couldn’t disagree with you more about Barnes.
I’ve been shooting Original X, XLC, TSX, TTSX, LRX bullets since back when I would buy them from you at Russell’s.

None have EVER let me down!!

I had a 270 in a Husqvarna that I donated to someone in need following the fire loss some experienced a short while back in Ft. McMurry. I ended up replacing it with a WBY-X Vanguard, S2 Blaze. I have yet to use it in the field. With the limited punching paper I have done with it though, there seems to be a fondness for the Sierra 130gr SBT and the Barnes 130gr TTSX BT. With any luck, ;) this year.

I guess it all boils down to individual choice of which bullet to utilize for hunting. Confidence is a great mindset when out in the wilderness, and Nosler bullets gives me that confidence, not so much with Barnes.

Still looking for a chrony result...

Loves those Barnes though! Always done what they say they do! But I also load Noslers. Sometimes it's what's on the shelf and what I know I've loaded in the past that's worked. But then I seem to return to the Barnes!

I'm with track on this one!!

Ive seen almost similar results on a nosler partition of all things 175 gr 7mm bullet out of the 7 mag used on a mule deer at 280 yards sometimes anomalies happen I still wouldnt take a small sample size and paint it with the same brush as ive had excellent results since with the partition and even better results with Barnes bullets i general use a good quality bullet that shoots good for the rifle at hand whether its a barnes or a nosler or a swift or a trophy bonded most rifles seem to prefer barnes
my .02 cents
