Hey
Not sure if this is in the right location or not...

I have a shooting buddy that helped get me into the sport a while back. He served as a high level police officer in Winnipeg for many years, and now is in charge of a security for a university. Anyways, he just decided he will be retiring in April (at 65 or so), and they will probably be holding a dinner for him. I've been thinking for some time about having a comical rifle produced, which would probably be a .22 with easily removable wood stock. My idea was to have a custom stock made, but in the shape of a cane. The shoulder part would be cut off around the back of the grip, and it would curve back around like a regular cane. It would be more for laughs than for shooting.

Would anyone know if this would be concievable? ...or of anyone that would be willing to make one of these? Any ideas on rifles, pricing for the custom job?

Lastly, with legalese, I'm sure it would just have to be 26 inches overall...shouldn't be a problem. If need be, I can just find one with a longer barrel than 18".

Thanks,
Matt

It sounds like a good fun project, but a thought : is the retirement party going to be on University grounds or in a University building with all the stuff about guns on campus. The other thought :what you have in mind is still a gun and would have to be registered, transfered and need PAL just for your friend to take the joke home that evening. Maybe a cane with a holster attached , with a pellet gun , airsoft gun or toy gun may get you past all this and a SWAT takedown of your retirement party.

Bearman,
The dinner would probably be at the Police hall. I don't think there will be one gunphobic person there, and as it will be mostly LEO's that he is friends with, I'm sure there would be no problem. Most people who will be there will be his hunting buddies, old police friends, and family (of which he has converted all of them to the light side). Of course, I'd tell all the people who would need to know before hand.

If I pursued this, I'd wouldn't register it to him until after the dinner of course (yes, he's got a PAL).
I'd also include a regular stock with it so he can actually use it (unless he finds the cane part practical :))
Ok, although I am brutal with photoshop, and haven't taken an art class in my life, I managed to make a rough first sketch. It doesn't look pretty, but I'm going to have a cousin (who is an artist) do a better sketch soon.
