Custom Rifle Woes-What Now?

I am curious about how you measured the headspace... the headspace is set using steel gauges at the time the barrel is torqued to the action. If the smith said it was set at less than 3 thou... that means a steel go gauge in the chamber with the bolt closed has less than 3 thou clearance on the bolt face when the gauge is forward in the chamber. This is pretty much ideal... any tighter and you can run into sizing problems with some dies... it allows you to be able to size fire formed brass to an exact fit.

When you say the headspace was 10 thou... I think you may have been referring to cartridge head clearance on a particular piece of brass... that was over sized to start with. Headspace can only be measured using a steel go gauge.

?

I bought a steel headspace gauge later and the headspace is tight. I was wrong about the headspace being loose.

HEY STEVE ANSWER THE REASONABLE COMMENTS PLEASE

and the rifle on consignment is not buying the rifle back Steve

There was a 70% buyback offered or a consignment as he wanted more money on a rifle that was shot and proven twice. Proof never followed up on the first barrel.
This is a case of rifle shot, customer didnt agree, customer didnt like the options so he sold it private. In another post the OP is stating MacBros doesnt know how to make titanium actions. When the build was spec'd, we said the requested twist rate was to tight and suggested to cerakote the rifle as the titanium can be "Sticky". It was refused. After rebarreling it, the rifle was cerakoted and the action was much smoother.

The OP also keeps stating that he has checked headspace, when in fact he isnt using the term correctly and is putting fired brass into a Wilson gauge and thinks that is measuring headspace.

Either way, rifle is gone to a new owner that has reached out and has not said he is having any issues. Over 600 rifles built, this is the only one we have had these "issues" with.

You should read more carefully. I have never stated that MacBros can’t produce a titanium action. I said that they haven’t fixed the issues associated with titanium. Also I stated that cerakote is required to make the action work properly.

Also I didn’t sell the rifle privately because I wanted more money. I sold it privately because I didn’t want to deal with your BS anymore.

The rifle was never tested for more than 3 rounds! Much like at the beginning of the thread, you never shot a single 5 round group. I was able to produce many good 3 round groups but never a 5 round group. Consistency was never obtained.

Also again, I doubt the new owner has ever even loaded for it yet.

Consignment isnt the same as buyback!
