Custom Ruger No.1 takedown with some pretty nice walnut in progress

Looks really good. The only thing I'd change is a much slimmer fore-end to match the trim lines.

Ah, I see, I thought you meant it will be English Style but fat. In that case carry on. :)

Also re: ".275 Rigby Flanged" - that might make it tough to get correct headstamped ammo for Africa...no?

Had it in the blasting cabinet tonight, bead blasted with 170 mesh glass to match the frame, Ruger rib, and barrel. It needs one more blast but starting to get the finished picture, I like matte as zero reflections and appreciate the satin look 170 glass bead delivers. I had Rocky Mountain Rifles fit the tube and they did a perfect job, indexed spot on. It's headspaced for standard 7x57 and headspaces off the shoulder not the rim, so you can shoot standard ammo and fingernail extract (or change the extractor), and 7x57R brass is just loaded as normal with standard 7x57 dies.

Indeed, been thinking about that, and might put 7x57 Rimmed on the barrel flat opposite, have both. I like the .275 designation a lot is all.

Very cool project. Nice to see something other than McMillans & stainless for a change. (I admit guilt of that so flame-off. :) )

I did the same thing with my .356/.358 Win, cut the standard .358 chamber, headspaced on the shoulder and then cut the rim in order to use .356 as well... The extractor functions with both cases...

That is a really fine, well thought out rifle Ardent.

For the moment, with the export pinch on sights NECG will no longer ship to Canada. My first choice would have been to just turn the points off the muzzle and do a banded sight, this ramp is quite tall but will work nicely with the NECG Ruger base peep on the quarter rib, requires a fairly tall front sight. At the moment it's affixed by only a single screw so we'll see where plans go as it comes together.

I you find express sights in stainless, please let me know where. I have been looking for a set without luck for a Sako project. I may end up going with Kodiak sights, but even those are not easy to find.

Are there any particular stores a person should keep an eye on for when the occasional No.1 might come through? Also, where did you get that barrel? I'm in love with it.

Have you considered running a factory stainless banded front sight?

Yes just none in my parts box, had one of the factory .250 Savage stainless / walnut Lipseys with sights and likes the look, haven't checked the US suppliers yet. I do like blued sights on a stainless rifle style wise too, so pretty open minded on it.

To my eye, a steel fore end cap "a la Quigley" would be the cats meow with that beautifull tapered octagonal bbl..

As a side note she's actually a dodecagon, 12 sides. :)

Clay at Prophet River usually does well for No.1s, I'd just watch the EE personally doublegun has / had a beautiful stainless .22-250, and Ruger doesn't make the stainless No.1 anymore. I just sold a full stock No.1, and actually bought this donor action from double gun.

Barrel is by McGowen, the flutes were my idea and done after the fact in Canada.

Gorgeous. Love to pick up a Number 1. But, as I'm sure you know Angus, being a 200hr wonder doesn't put me on any top earner's list.
