Custom sks to look like AK-47

What can I say. Some people just don't get it

Well, guilty as charged, I guess! Lol. You've got me there...

And honestly, (honestly) I'm happy for you guys that can afford to spend 6 months of mortgage payments on a rifle you've always wanted. Owning a $5k firearm of any description or any function is not in the cards for me, nor will it ever be unless I start playing the lottery.

I have digressed a little further down the rabbit hole with all this than I had intended, so my apologies to those that I've irritated. I felt that you folks were looking down your noses at the OP for not having the finest of red rifles. So I in turn, was hypocritically looking down my own nose at you folks for spending (what would be it my household) an irresponsible amount of money on a rifle. Again, my apologies.

In the midst of all the chest and drum beating though, I was legitimately hoping to see some quantitative comparison between the two rifles. The valmet and its soaring cost intrigue me, that's all. Much in the same way that if I went down to my local used car lot to look for a car, and saw a car with $500,000.00 on the windshield, I (and I think most people) would stop and scratch their heads, wondering "why is it worth that?" So I had hoped for a range report, or a grouping comparison, or a features video, or anything to keep me from scratching this bald spot into my noggin.

But perhaps it is all in the fit and "Finnish". And that's ok <scratch scratch scratch>

Cheers,

KJ

SKS is made out of the forged steel. AK is stamped steel. I actually prefer SKS for all around rifle and I used AK during my military service.

This ^^^
I've cousin in NV and I asked him about AK's... " F**king Farm Equipment "
But he covets our SVT-40's like mad. We always desire what we can't have; the forbidden ( hence the #### market ) is always most desired.
OP, good luck...dress it up and have a party. BTW; if you keep it for 20 years, you'll probably go f:P: ...what was I thinking?
But have fun and stay safe.

VZ58 rifles

Love that red Vz58! :)

SKS/AK clone - not bad. The issue I always have with these clones (and I've built a couple in past years) is that they still have SKS weight and balance. Neither of which is great. And the clones look weird with the mags so far from the pistol grip. That being said, I do still own SKSs, and enjoy them for what they are.

Valmets: nope, probably not worth the money. Vz's make a pretty decent 'appearance' substitute for me. If I could have a non-Valmet AK or Galil, I probably wouldn't own a Valmet. But, as I can't, and as I really enjoy AKs, the Valmet is my only choice.

I don't see the point of making an SKS look like an AK ...... your gun though.

I'd take a VZ 58 or 858 over an AK (shot plenty of AK's). Think it's a better design.

imo SKS is a much better built rifle than AK's.

AK's have the pistol grip, removable mags and are more compact over the SKS (wish we could have SKS paras here), but that's about it.

To me the perfect SKS would be a Para with steel Tech Sight 200, trigger job and the 20 round fixed mag with no bull#### mag pin restriction. Don't have any need to make it look like something else.

You sure are making couple of valid points.

Or you could just buy one in 308 for 2400 to 3000. They aren't that hard to source at that price.

The only reason why id want the .308... is to turn it into a PSL clone. But my current financial situation doesnt warrant spending $4000+ dollars (including parts and smith work) on a single gun. But maybe when i finish school.... someday lol

Hi, Cedronius!

I think your post went sideways on you here.
Your question was, if anyone knows how to go about?
Well the answer is, not really. And I'm speaking for my self. I went the Bubba way, cause I don't have a machine shop (and I'm to cheap to pay someone).Lol
The guy that I watched, made a metal sleeve for the receiver like your stock does. He bought a stock that he could cut.
He cut the forend and the butt off, and bolted both to the metal part. A machine shop could help you with this.
Most likely, that you have to tinker with it. But that's the fun part ( for me, anyway).
And don't get discouraged by the haters.

Good luck with your project!

Regards, Der Hauptgefreite

i do have a version , no yet done have to decide how much i want to spend to get the final machined parts and find a place . i try to finish that thing in 2016

yes the sks will never be an AK , and i already got a cz858 , but the sks is cheap and fun to mod ,

the duckbill mag are the biggest problem with the sks

and yes those are real AK furniture , the redish one is from an ak74 that i got from somebody on cgn , the other one is an unfinished set that i got from iron wood design in the state ,

Even as an owner of several Valmets over the years, I like these Bubba SKS builds and appreciate the time and skill that goes into them. Refurb SKS rifles are a dime a dozen and make a great canvas to finish however one likes. I think it is much better to do an AK clonish SKS build than try to make it look like a black rifle with the tacticool stuff though.

Maybe for a Hunter. Not a M78 though. Unless you mean in US dollars and prior to import fees, mag pinning, gst, shipping x3, and insurance @ $2; per $100 from seller to importer and again from importer to you if your cautious. Tack on a hard case to ship it in if you are smart.

I accept your offer and will buy your dozen refurbished SKS rifles for $1.20.

Sorry Man, you are one day too late. I got sick of them cluttering up the place so had the RCMP come over and collect them. They were so polite and make great house guests. I recommend it to anyone. :)
