Custom XCR Barrels

Thanks to a customer who took the plunge we have worked out how to get an XCR barrel apart without damaging any of the parts.

This means we can now offer custom stainless match grade barrels for the XCR rifle. :cool:

Pretty much any configuration can be made keeping in mind that any significantly shorter length may render the rifle restricted.

Calibers we can offer at this time are:
.223 Rem / 223 Wylde / 5.56
6.5 Grendel
300 Whisper
7.62x39

Potential calibers that could work with this rifle:
17 Fireball / 17 Mach 4
20 Vartarg
221 Fireball
204 Ruger
17 Remington
20 Practical
6mm x 45 / 6mm-223
6.8 SPC

NOTE: A donor barrel is required from which to remove the barrel nut and gas system for each custom barrel. We do not make these parts and we will not be making these parts anytime in the future.

Is there enough meat in the chamber area for maybe 450 bushmaster?

Theoretically yes. The Bushmaster case is a wee bit slimmer than the Socom case so it would be easier to fit in the available space. The problem would be getting a bolt to work. We are not in the business of modifying bolts so that would be up to you.

Wouldn't you still need a special bolt for some of those calibers like the 6.5 grendel?

Can you offer lighter contour barrels or fluted barrels?

The Grendel is a derivative of the 6BR which is in turn a derivative of the 220 Russian which was the parent case for the 7.62x39.

We can offer any contour you choose. No fluting and we can't shorten or lengthen the gas system. The barrel has to fit within the general parameters of the existing rifle.

No , 7.62X39 bolt will not chamber a Grendel case ( in a Grendel chamber obviously ). 7.62X39 case will chamber using a Grendel bolt ( in a 7.62X39 chamber obviously ) but will cause .011" excessive headspace. Chances are you will get light primer strike with surplus ammo like Wolf ( hardly dented the primer when I tried it )

This is the difference between a true Grendel and a Grendel knockoff like the 6.5CSS ( Competition Shooting Sports were "true" licenced Grendel prior to 2006, but now have their own version of the Grendel using the 7.62X39 bolt )
 
this is fantastic. Im so excited for my xcr, but what Im reading about accuracy is not up to my standards. Are you up and running with this right now? Also I know there is a chamber between the nato 5.56 and the sammi .223, is that an option and advisable? Turnaround time?
 
I would do it if I could be guarenteed it will function flawlessly. Otherwise what would the point of purchasing a 7.62x39kit (750 bucks) and then spend an additional 550 bucks then get a gun that don't work.

Only 2 guarantees in life, death and taxes. We are not magicians. The barrel will be alot higher quality than factory so an accuracy improvement would be expected. Even the firearms maker does not seem to be able to make their own guns function flawlessly.
If you want a truly dependable semi auto centerfire rifle, try an SKS:p
They work just like AKs do, all the time and in all conditions. Accuracy however..........
 
It's about time!:p I was looking at my 7.62 barrel last night, thinking this should be possible. What caliber did your customer get done? 6.5 Grendel does sound interesting!

PS: How much to build me an SKS in 6.5 Grendel?:p:D:D:D

Well you just lost a paying customer cause you can stand behind the product you sell. I know 100% reliability is impossible but if I can't shoot 10 rounds without a failure then I can't buy the product and I know with the 7.62x39 bolt the rifle won't make it 3-5 rounds without a failure. Robarm has been trying to get the 6.5 to work in the XCR for a couple years now and hasn't been able to do with a specialized bolt let alone a 7.62x39 bolt.

I know you guys make quality products but you don't have me convinced on this.

Think asking 100% reliability from the guy who wants to make one part of a gun who's own designer/manufacturer can not make work 100% of the time is fair?
 
Not asking for 100% reliability asking for reasonable reliability not a failure every second or third round especially considering it will nearly add 1500 dollar cost to a 2500 dollar rifle. Using the 7.62x39 bolt will not work and if someone can get it to work for the 6.5 grendel reliability I will offer an apology to them and to Alberta Tactical Rifle.
 
Well i guess i am the guinea pig here....

I am going to let Rick try and build a 6.5 Grendel with my spare gas block and barrel extension.

I am also considering re-barreling my .223 if he believe's i will see a significant accuracy increase.

Information for you XCR owners:

I was able to buy:
- a barrel extension directly from Robarm ($60.00 USD)
- a gas block directly from Wolverine supplies ($120 ish i think)

I've seen several XCRs need work out of the box to prevent then from jamming all over the place. Yeah, it would result in a pricey gun, but look at what ATR is doing. The bolt/extension, and gas are all robarm. They are changing a barrel. Does that come with a bunch of risk?

Unless I read the OP wrong, the cost here is an XCR+550, not 1500+2500. The latter gives you 2 uppers. no?

I am wondering about that as well, but I am not an expert on it.
