Custom XCR Barrels

Another cartridge I would be interested in and this would need a new barrel would be a wildcat designed by John at White Oak Armament called a 6MM WOA its slightly different than just necking down a 6.8 case from what I understand the 6 WOA was designed as a competition cartridge and has found some favor as such I am hearing that it maybe the best 6MM to be had in the AR 15 platform.

Having absolutely zero knowledge of these 2 calibers would make doing them a concern until I could spend some time to learn more about them. Given the amount of work I already have on my plate it will take some time before I can say yay or nay on that 1.

6mmAR would be nice. What kind of accuracy improvement are you seeing with the match barrels?

I doubt subsonic loads would work with that gas system...
 
I'd still like to see something related to how well the .223 shoots. Are all these barrels just for show or has even one had some bullets through yet? It's been a while. I know if I had one you'd all know how it shot THAT day.

Indeed, that's what I'll be looking to buy - a match grade barrel in .223 for my XCR, in the new year. Maybe I'll be a test subject...but that's a long time to wait for everyone!

Would have done it sooner (for my Winchester 70 300WM too!), but "had" to buy an engagement ring instead.
Damn those are expensive...
 
I am still thinking what my next gun project is going to be and I keep coming back to I do not want my XCR barrel in 223 so what am I going to do with it I'm either going to do something with it or sell the kit.

I am not much of a paper puncher and I use my rifles almost exclusively for hunting I find the 223 is just to anemic for my needs and I feel that there must be something that can be done to use my exiting XCR-L 223 barrel as a test barrel that can be rechambered to something better and if it works out then I would get a match grade barrel made up.

I just found the following on another site which makes me want to look at rechambering to a 22-6.8 SPC considering it is basically what I quote below also just found a cartridge it is called 22 PDK.

So guys I already have the bolt for the 6.8spc just need a reamer and dies and I am good to go...

The 6.8 SPC is a shortened 25 Remington case ( or 30 Remington), which in turn was a rimless version of the old 30/30 case...

On the other hand, you have the old 219 Zipper or the Old 219 Donaldson Wasp...which were on the rimmed 30/30 cases... shorted down...

but also it was not uncommon to use the 25 Rem case to build the same rounds...

no one is reinventing the wheel here...

essentially wildcats on the 6.8 SPC were done 60, 70 and 80 years before the 6.8 SPC ever came into existence...

...because the only thing a business owner who has a lot on his plate should be thinking of is whether or not he's fulfilled your internet desires...
 
Well Paul, perhaps I'd be sending him some money if I liked what I heard, I do believe that's why he advertised that he's producing them, is it not? Sorry, I'm not about to send my barrel and $550 if I haven't heard a single report of it being an upgrade over factory. I'd love to upgrade my xcr, but months after production with no reports... Well it's starting to make me think there is nothing worthy or reporting to potential customers.

Many reasons. Time, we are extremely busy and to take a day off to go to the range has not been conveinent lately.
The barrel we made is in 6.5 Grendel, so ammo is not easily available, we just got some a couple of weeks ago.

Believe me once we have any info either positive or negative we WILL be posting it.
We are NOT taking any orders for custom XCR barrels until we KNOW that we can make it work and the the barrel WILL make an improvement. If we find that a high quality barrel does not improve the accuracy of the XCR rifles significantly we will not be offering them.
Stay tuned, as things develop we will post it.
 
D*mn I just realized I can't rechamber a 223 chamber to take a 6.8 case necked down to 224 the case is way to short to clean up the chamber...

So I guess I'm in limbo now...

unless you want someone to work with that 6.5 G barrel/bullets you have...

I volunteer I will have the time to do it as soon as I get back from my hunting trips...
