I was using nosler 300 gr HP, if I remember, and tried a 325 gr gas checked lead round. I modified the HP a bit by adding a #4, or #2, "if I remember right" shot into the hollow point. This is because at higher speed that I was running I heard that the HP open up too fast and disintegrate. Was using imr4198, as I couldn't get my hands on any RL7 or h4198. Really wanted to try RL7 as I read that was the better of the go to powders.
I was not able to take any game with those 300gr, but I sure tried my darndest. Called out a 5 point elk, in 6 season, and a 9/7 in 10 season on the moose, and just could not get in on any bears that fall. Just ooooooh sooooo close!
It was shooting the factory 265 hornady with easy, but I always like to push boundaries. The 444 tips are one of the harder bullets to find as well, so it was another incentive to push to the bushmaster.
