CX4 Storm as first firearm purchase

If that's what you want. Go for it. It is your first. You will always remember your first.
I don't' own a CX4, nor do I remember anything about it's reliability or anything else about it(sorry it doesn't float my boat. But that's me not you).

Whatever your choice is, it's a fine choice since it gets you into the firearm community. Since you write that it will be your first firearm, I'm sure that you will be looking around at the other disciplines to see what else you can get into. Personally, I never considered getting a carbine that shoots pistol cartridges as a first firearm purchase. I do have one now but it's a Winchester 94 AE in .357 mag.

If you throw in a bit more money and buy the 9mil dies with it you will soon start saving money on ammo that you spent on the rifle. My reloads ring me about $6 a box. She's very cheap to feed, on par with a 223 rifle. Go for it but do buy a red dot scope 'cause the iron sights not too convenient.
This is what I own: a non-restricted CX4 with 19 or so inch barrel.
By the way, Elwood uses not just stainless blanks - they are chrome/vanadium blanks, much better than the original chrome plated. I printed 10" groups with this rig at 100 yards and that considering that my particular CX4 has a small trigger problem that I will have to try to get rectified under warranty: if I pull the trigger gently, like on a target rifle, it misfires. So I had to jerk the trigger like in combat mode and still it put all bullets on paper at 100 yards. This is pretty impressive for a pistol calibre and red dot sight where red dot is size of bulls eye at that distance.

Storm is one of greatest things on the market. Inexpensive, can be made non-restricted (I have two "nonnies") and relatively accurate. I haven't seen anyone on the range who would walk by my storm without leaving trail of saliva.

There is a bit of dependancy on bullet type, hollow points for example make much more stable bullet, be it 115, 124 or 147 grain - they are all generally better bullet for this particular gun. I was shooting two storms so I guess I can generalise.
Mods to consider:
longer barrel to non-restrict it, thats where real fun starts. I have custom made heavy profile and weighted fore end.
trigger - there is an easy fix for it, google and you will find it.
optics - forget the red dots - put some half-decent scope on it. You will need short scope on high mounts and you will have to trim rear sight guard a little bit for scope to clear it.

I also love mine! I wasnt aware you could get aftermarket barrels to make it NR. I will definately be looking into that!
I got my CX4 as my first firearm purchase also and I dont regret it. Most of my friends got pistols as their first purchase so I wanted to be different. It works out well because when we go to the range I shoot their pistols and they shoot my CX4.
Personally I love the look of the CX4 and it's just a joy to shoot. Fits me like a glove.

i noticed we are seeing alot less of these on the EE now than before
I guess the real question is whether it suits your needs or not. Otherwise, it sounds like a good functioning firearm. I used to enjoy playing around with my Ruger 44 mag semi-auto, and this sounds similar except knowing whether it would be good for deer or not like the 44 mag which is at close range.
