Speaking of which how is the 357Sig & 7.62x25 Storm holding up and what did you use for mags for the 7.62x25?
good questions. First, 357 SIG keep on falling apart with plastic trigger group parts not being able to take such hard beating from increased recoil. I should have replaced recoil spring and replaced charge handle with ballast to reduce recoil accelerations but thats where I got lazy. I think 357SIG is pushing the upper limits for blowback system altogether. Other than that there are no overpressure signs and gun shoots so friggin reliably I will be a fool to complain.
7.62x25 mags. Well, rather "mag" (singular, no "s" at the end). Problem has been discussed here a few times and so far I tried two options. First and cheapest one was having to bulk up original tokarev magazine with two aluminium plates screwed on to each side of a magazine to match mag opening width. That, plus original Beretta's plastic mag well (insert) needed to be removed to open up the available room for much longer tokarev rounds. I cut the notch on aluminium side to mutch up beretta's notch and "new-improved" tokarev magazine worked as good as 92's. The only problem was the rake angle of tokarev grip and therefore magazine wasn't aggressive enough and rounds ended up sitting with a bit of "nose down attitude" causing occasional feeding problem. Another problem is trigger link wasn't rounding much longer tokarev magazine and had to be modified with sharper turns.
A bit more expensive in terms of time and effort was my ambitious project to fabricate 7.62x25 double stack magazine for beretta storm. I made one (will post pictures) after fiddling a little with templates and special tools - there is a lot more invioved than I originally thought. Anyways, my mag is a friggin work of a beauty, friends joke sometimes "why bother limiting mag capacity if you can make your own". I know I shoulda posted pictures but that project hasn't been finished yet. There are some problems with my magazine as well. I based my mag design on having Beretta's mag well in place, just opened up to 45 caliber mag length. That turned out to be not enough to accomodate magazine of original tokarev's round OAL. I sort of put my bets on my reloaded 7.62x25 with 0.32 caliber jacketed bullets re-sized to 7.62 and seated a little deeper. Reason was much wider choice of hunting type (SP or HP) bullets available. Anyways, if I made another choice from the beginning I'd be selling my Cx4 tokatev magazines by now.
Say, changing Cx4 9mm Luger into 7.62x25 is not an easy task. Changing 40SW into 357SIG on the other hand was as easy as swapping barrels.
A bit further on 357SIG performance - round was originally designed for pistol length barrel. Using same loading data one can run into trouble with cases having necks opened up almost completely due to the fact that there is enough time for the case to start moving back with bullets being still in the barrel. Like I mentioned earlier, bolt weight and spring index need to be changed to deal with this issue. Lighter bullets, like 115 grainers and 90grainers are still ok though.
Sorry for such lenghty post. I almost feel sorry for hijacking.
