Pretty much what it says in the title. I have an old .22 FN Trombone, and I've heard it's possible to cycle it without having to fire off the action. Is this true? I see that there's a slide lock in the trigger guard, but as far as I've figured out, all it does is allow my to cycle multiple times. I still need to dry fire (yikes) at the end.

Apologies for being such a total n00b when it comes to rimfire, the only firearms I have experience with are military centre-fire, and I'm not used to the whole "don't dry fire" rule.

Never played with a FN trombone but can you pull and hold the trigger while cycling the action to allow the hammer to follow as the action closes?

No, tried that. It still fires.

Guess I could just get myself some snap caps. Though I'm not sure they'd work with a tube magazine.

It is possible to cycle the action and then let the hammer down without the 'snap' of the hammer hitting the firing pin. Unloaded of course, cycle the action, then with the pump handle, move the bolt forward about half way, then squeeze on the rigger and then push the pump handle forward, the hammer will ride the bolt forward and not 'snap' as with normal firing.
