CZ 452 Lux or American for silhouette?

All the recent americans are beech. They are the Australian American as it says on the box. Haven't seen a walnut 452 american for a while.

Here is mine it is stamped 2011

Why must you post pictures like that?!?!? I need a new laptop. And the 452! But cannot afford both at the same time. You're not making my decision any easier! :D

Lux.

That long barrel handles hyper velocity .22lr (1640fps rate - CCI quick shots are amazing) better than just about anything out there. Hard to find that ammo right now, but it has a big advantage once you start reaching out a bit because of the flat trajectory.

Zero at 25 yards = .5" high at 50 yards = zero at 75 yards = 1" low at 100 yards... (I spent a lot of time playing with that ammo at different ranges to confirm that)

The rifle itself will shoot that ammo under 3/4" groups at 75 yards, and a little over 1" at 100 yards.

But the main thing, if you're shooting silhouettes, is the flat trajectory - makes point-shooting a lot easier.

That ammo is too fast for any of my shorter barrel rifles to stabilize properly, and all the carbines tend to have huge groups with it (like, 1" at 25 yards).

Good luck with the new CZ. Keep in mind that regulation silhouette targets should only be shot with standard velocity, < 1100 fps, ammo to avoid target damage.

I would say consider a CZ 452 Silhouette. It's a great rifle for scoped offhand shooting, I love mine. The composite stock gives a fantastic cheek weld with a properly mounted scope and the overall weight is less than an American or a Lux. A sponsor is showing one in stock in case you are interested.

I've used the Lux, Silhouette and Scout for the game and for me, the Scout is the one I kept. Short guns work for me.

The $500 barrel might have something to do with that.

The Lilja is part of the "even more so now" part of my post. Before the Lilja she was still a great shooter and very much on par with my 452s.

I have heard many people say the 455s are not as good as the 452s. Having had both in my personal experience they are pretty neck and neck. Seems quite a few feel the same on RFC.

In the early days of the 455 there were some issues, but it appears those have long been worked out.

Your experience may differ. This is simply my experience.

Thanks,
Cal.

it seems the lux has a longer barrel & sights & diff. stock design, the 452 sil. & 452 american are same action ,but vary in stocks???is this right?? thanks Bill
