Hey guys~I've been thinking I should give my gopher rifle a little TLC. It's served me very well on my gophering vacations...but when it comes to high-volume shooting, 2 things about my rifle could be improved. Trigger, and bolt handle.

I have a Yo Dave kit in my other 452, so I'm thinking I might like to try a Rifle Basix in this one. (452 Varmint) Anyone have experience with with a Rifle Basix in their 452? I've put 2 of them in Marlin bolt guns, and they transform the shooting experience entirely. That good.

The bolt handle..

During fast-paced shooting, I find the short bolt handle on the 452 to be a bit of a pain. Literally. I have big hands, and the natural way to cycle a bolt quickly is to lift/pull back with the outer edge of the palm of your hand, and cycle forward/down with the area at the base of your thumb. No issue there really, but the CCI Blazer my rifle shoots so well is a tight fit in the chamber...so more force is required. x 50 rounds, x 9-10 boxes a day, x 6-7 days. I'd like to think a longer bolt handle with a larger knob might offer some leverage, and perhaps a better fit. Keeping my hand a little further away from the scope~another bonus. Anyone here buy an aftermarket/ready-to-install bolt handle? If so which one, and from where? Photos welcome. :)

This is the recipient...and and a photo of a what a typical gopher looks like after meeting a custom CCI Blazer HP. Neal Waltz=thank you for your contribution to the rimfire world. :)

I installed a Rifle Basix trigger in my 452 6 or 7 years ago. I shoot about 200 rounds a month, so not a big user. It is a great trigger and adjustments are very simple. I had used a yodave kit and it was good but trying to shim out the creep using multiple guess on shims was not what I wanted to do. First Rifle Basix trigger that arrived, I installed, and I couldn’t get it adjusted properly. Phoned up the manufacturer and he apologized that the trigger got by their quality checks. They had a bad batch. Two days later I received a new Rifle Basix trigger. Installed quickly and adjusts easily. The support was great and very friendly. I wouldn’t switch back, good trigger.

Thanks for chiming in. Yeah, the two times I dealt with RB..the experience was excellent. Pretty much settles it..time to put one in the CZ!

I had a shop in Texas chop and thread my factory bolt and install this knob on my 452 Varmint 22LR. Headspace is determined by the bolt handle in these 452s so I’m not sure changing to an aftermarket handle (you’ll see factory modded ones sold online) is such a good idea!? So I stuck with my factory handle at the suggestion of this gunsmith.

It works very well and really helps with clearance on these low 30mm scopes. Cycles like a dream (much nicer and smoother than my Vudoo, which is probably already a 10/10).

Trigger is a YoDave Kit and is much nicer than stock.

Nice stock!
What is that?

And yes as mentioned the 452 is not a threaded bolt handle and would have to be taken to a machine shop to get chopped off and threaded. Then the sky’s the limit with styles of thread on choices.
Area 419 has a interesting design that looks very comfortable to use

If you want a nice stock... have a look at Airgun Source. They bring in the Aeron stock for air rifles but its available for the 452 and they told me they were bringing some in soon.

If they get more inquiries they will bring more.

Here's a link in the UK so you can see it.

I have an Aeron stock on my FX Dreamline pellet gun for PRS motor skills practice in the basement.

I guess you could put designer clothes on a hooker but … still a hooker. The CZ 452 American will remain a classic long after the CZ 459 has replaced the CZ 457.

I have to agree. :)

In fairness, I've now handled (not shot) a 457 and boy..nothing not to like about the way that thing looks. No plans to change from my 452s though, sweet rifles. I love 'em!

Oh hey... I've had problems getting enough uppage for long range shooting with mine.

I've come across some scope rings recently that I've never noticed before.

There are Infinity rings, FX Not Limits rings and Sports Match adjustable rings. Airgun guys seem to use them but I see no reason not to use them on 22s to get the elevation we want.

The big idea with all of them is that instead of using a 20 MOA rail to get more elevation (which is never enough on a 22) you can adjust the rings to get the exact amount of elevation you want.

On my T1x I use a 25MOA rail and Burris Signature XTR rings with adjustable inserts to get another 25MOA. The rings are pricey but they sure do the job. Have them on my 455 as well.

OP I have the same issue with the bolt handle on my 455. Unfortunately CZ cheaped out and started making the round knob with a hole in it. It makes it near impossible to grind and thread the end for a different handle unless you add material to the end of the cut-off.

Wow, that is a huge mount offset to the pic rail.

Completely unnecessary.

unnecessary????

Why unnecessary? Are you some sort of Fudd? Unnecessary because you don't shoot long range maybe.

I shoot pop cans at 300 yards and cannot dial for it with a 20 MOA rail because the rail does not have enough slope. I have a steel plate at 375 (from that firing point) and I have to hold high for that with the magnification reduced to get the target inside the field of view.

With these rings I can set exactly the slope I want.

Ever heard of a zero stop scope? These rings can be set perfectly so they provide a zero stop just a few minutes off the lower end of the scope travel.

As far as I'm concerned, if you are into CRPS, these rings are where its at and if you don't have them, you are behind the curve.
