CZ 452 Varmint accuracy, and the barrel lug... opinions?

I ordered it tonight

Now to decide on an affordable scope! Ugh... V:I: ;)

Have look at the Sightron offerings as well, very nice glass. Peter at Hirsch Precision will look after you.

Good luck!

^this. I like lots of scopes (including Leupold) but for the money...for a rimfire...I think it's tough to beat Sightron. My 452 Varmint wears this scope from Hirsch (CGN Sponsor) http://www.hirschprecision.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=102_135&products_id=1595 I think it was a little under $300 at the time, but the Canadian dollar was stronger then too. I bought a new SIII from Prophet River around Christmas time too, they're a Sightron dealer as well. Both first-rate outfits to deal with.

I see the odd SI and SII come up used in the EE, so if you had closer to about $500 to spend, worth looking at an SII if it has SF or AO. However, I've been very pleased with my SI and don't personally think there is a whole lot better out there for the $. Not that I've seen/used anyway. Used~I also like vintage, AO Bushnell Banners. (glossy finish, Japanese glass) Most common magnification range is 4-12, but I also own one in 6-18x. Great scopes, usually in the $125-$175 range.

Nice, I think the 452 was a wise choice over the 455, though I would heartily recommend the 455 platform if going right into a custom barrel/build.

Optics wise, I currently have a Vortex Crossfire II 6-18x, Sightron SII 6-24x and recently picked up a new-to-me SIII 8-32x. I get the sense either of the Sightrons would be stretching your optics budget, the Vortex was in the $300 range. It is pretty decent, I just find myself becoming more discerning about glass these days and I would only get an SIII or Diamondback/Viper if I were to buy these brands again. Their top end is where you really get the value of quality-to-price, in the $300 range I'd go with a Leupold. I also have a 3-9x VX-1 on my Remington 597 and the glass quality is far better than the Crossfire. Contrary to popular belief, you can adjust the parallax on a factory set scope, so you can set it for say 50 yards if that's where you do most of your target shooting, and it will be good enough for most hunting situations up to 75 yards. That should open up some more scope options for you.

I really like mine as well. I wish it had a fancier pattern in the stock, but other than that, its excellent.

I haven't really tried with better ammo, but with mini-mags its shoots very well. I cannot get it to do the 5 shot-five groups thing, but that might be more me than the rifle.

the only thing I have done was to smooth out some wood work in the barrel channel that was close to making it not free floating, and a Yodave kit.

My best group is a single hole group of 5. it looks like a 9mm hole. But then the next group will be over an inch if you count all 5.

Pick up some standard velocity ammo and your groups will improve immensly.
CCI SV Aguila SV, and better yet SK std plus

I have several 452's, never tweeked a damn thing, bought them all used on the EE all shoot great

Only tweaking my Style and Varmint had was when I took delivery of them at Reliable Gun. Before packing them, Shane said he'd massage the trigger a little and went out to the back room. Came back shortly with very sweet triggers that have held up well for 15 years. Not bad for a quick "bonus" trigger job.

Congratulations, great rifle. Go to amazon, ca and buy yourself the Talley rings for CZ rimfire. scope? Your choice. If you want to get better accuracy out of the rifle, just remove the barrel screw altogether. The action screw is stout enough to support all it needs to. wcat post was likely the most valuable in the thread.

Good move to get the rifle. Buy the scope first and then get the rings that will give you the height needed for the scope you choose.
