CZ 455/457 or Ruger precision rimfire for PRS ?

JBD, yeah I agree the Savage A22 is a good budget option. I have one and it’s fun to shoot, especially with the 25round butler creek mags. Mine shoots decent and provides great value for what it cost (~$275 if I remember right).

The B22 would be another good option if the preference is for a bolt gun.

It just depends what you want. The Savage A22 and B22’s provide the best bang for your buck, in my opinion. There’s no comparing them to the quality of the CZ’s and Tikka’s though. The more expensive guns may not shoot any better but the quality is definitely better, and for myself, as I get older, I appreciate that more and more

Don't rule out the Anschutz, buy once - cry once, and there is quite a few on EE. Never owned one but from what I've read and researched, out of the box accuracy they are far superior to the CZ and Tikka.

There is one for sale I'm eyeing but when the time comes to dish out the cash and it's sold then it wasn't meant to be.

Yeah, good point - I haven’t ruled them out but haven’t given them much serious consideration because of there cost. I’ll take another look though. Thanks for the tip b

I'm more then happy with my current setup and it's satisfying my .22lr shooting needs but if I was to do again, based on post reading and research.... I would go straight to a Anschutz.

I’m going through this conundrum too. I’m looking for a new 22LR for target shooting. I’ve looked at them all (I think) and have it narrowed down to the 457 and t1x but can’t decide between the two.

There fit and finish on the CZ’s is second to none and I like the wood stocks - makes them seem kinda classy.

The Tikka has a great trigger and I like that they take most of the same accessories as the T3’s

I've tried the trigger on the Tikka Tx1 at BP and when compared to my 457 trigger I much prefer the CZ especially after installing a YoDave spring and making all the adjustments to 10oz, no creep or over travel and passes multiple bump tests.

I have a savage TRR SR and it shoot well. Wish I would have bought a CZ for the same price. Mounts are a bit pricier for those.

I wouldn't be saying that. I thought upgrading to a CZ from my savage mark 2TR would be great upgrade. My savage blew the CZ out of the water in the accuracy department. Even with the KRG chassis and the multiple area 419 parts it still shoots worse then my savage. I'm actually super disappointed with my CZ. Hopefully my new IBI barrel I ordered makes a difference.

These events have been won by RPRs, Savage MkII and Tikka T1xs, along with a few other rifles. I'd rank them by budget. Best bang for the buck? Savage Mk II. Then the RPR - most adjustable for a perfect fit out of the box. Then the Tikka T1x then the CZ455/457s. The key thing is to get a great fit then try a bunch of ammo to find what shoots best at 50 and at distance (as far as you are able).

I would add the modified 10/22 to the mix.

One point that is rarely discussed and obvious when competing, how easy can you change mags on the go? To me, that eliminates some popular choices.

Bang for buck, easily the RPR22lr. You save money on rifle cost, magazine cost, scope base cost, mounting fore-end bipods and rails cost, cheek height adapter cost, trigger cost. It's not even close.

Oh god...

I could not possibly disagree more.

I have a buddy with the RPR 22 and he sent it back for warranty repair because the accuracy was so bad.

Ruger returned it un-fired stating they have no accuracy guarantee.

Then he sold the RPR and got a CZ457 and loves it.

I have a CZ452 and hit pop cans at 300 yards most of the time with it.

I will say this though... Some guys seem to be pleased with the RPR so if you buy one, do so knowing there is a good chance you will need to upgrade the barrel.... If you don't get a wink wink good one.

If you buy a CZ, there is a good chance you will want to upgrade the stock.

Either way, you will probably drop another $300 on it.

Sounds like my experience. My Savage MKII was a pretty good shooter, every CZ I got was a dud. The IBI barrel should help you out, the CZs can shoot quite well with a good barrel, as my 455/Lilja can attest to.

I love my MKII and it been an excellent shooter, building a souped-up 10/22 right now for next season or CPRS22/NRL 22 since the build just kind of fell into my lap. But, had it not happened I would've been getting a CZ 457.

I would be looking for an unfired Cz452 from the EE. A 452 gives you the best chance for a .5 in @50 yards rifle that is moderately priced. Of course there are no guarantees that you don't end up with a lemon....I used to have some 455s but their performance disappointed me. I kept the 452s.
I have no experience with 457s.
