CZ 455 target thumbhole stock

I have a savage thumb hole too.....I'm not a fan. It's OK for me, but doesn't fit my wife at all, and sometimes I associated with left handed people...... Boyd's varmint will be the end game for my 455.

GGG

One more thought on the Boyds PV stock: Although I really liked the ergonomics, I was not impressed with the quality. The standard model with black textured finish, that I had, was made of soft wood that damaged very easily. If I get another it will be in Pepper Laminate which should, hopefully, be harder and less prone to damage.

I could swear that you we're speaking on a savage mkll tr stock
I know what you speak of, i was expecting the boyds to be laminate painted textured black
Might have an option for that but cost will go up

I have the pepper lam for my T3 varmints, and it is pretty solid. We have a savage TR-SRR (the tacticool .22) with the matte black stock and it is pretty "dentable"......

In this case which would be harder, laminate or walnut?
I could order a harder one, and have it painted textured black afterwards.
I know this will make some of you cringe, but im not much into wooden textures

The Turkish Walnut stock on a 452 Varmint is harder than most other woods.
When I free floated mine it was near impossible to remove any wood so I wrapped very course sand paper onto a Spark plug socket of the right diameter, and a 3/8's" extender bar and a power drill.
Done in five minutes!
You may also want to freeze the sliding dovetail that floats on the barrel using a metric 6x6 set screw.

Both the 452 and the 455 are capable of the 1/2" challenge but requires an ammo your rifle likes and some patience , set up.Like Tom E I f preferred the 455 but mine was in a Boyds peppered lam stock with a 6 oz trigger .

I didnt think of adjustable comb, i was thinking of drilling a tacpro in it.
I will look into the pricing option
Im going for the flat textured black finish, as its the one i personally prefer

It's only +$60 for the adjustable comb from boyd's, an amazing deal. Unless you like the look of the tacpro, price on this is really a wash. Coloured laminate is +$15 and high gloss +$25 I preferred that look. Interesting Tom E Gun's 452 did not perform, most complaints about CZ's are with 455's. I've shot 3 455's and one was bad over 1" groups, one hovered + - 1" with good ammo, the other 1/2"-3/4". None would beat the 1/2" challenge. Because of this I consider factory CZ's to be nothing more than expensive plinkers, I have a $350 Rem 597 that shoots 0.6"-0.8" why do I need a $750 CZ 455 that shoots 1"?

That aside, it's still a good action that can be made to perform very well with a quality custom barrel. It'd be nice to be able to buy the action only but it's easy enough to sell the stock and barrel to get some money back on a build.

I will have to think this through then.
I have many 10/22s, once had one with a DAR22 receiver with 16" McGowen barrel with bentz chamber

I was shooting about 3/4" @50M with thunderbolt ammo.

Was going CZ bolter as i wanted 1/2"@50M without modifying anything, as full builds can get tedious and expensive.
If factory CZ barrels aren't producing 1/2"@50M (with good ammo) i will seriously reconsider my choice

you have to shoot the factory gun first with good to high end ammo. Some will be good and will do it no problem, others wont and you'll have to live with it or toss it.
By the way the Boyd's pro varmint stock will cost you at least $260+ what ever options you include to it. I have a CZ455 pro varmint with a tacpro cheek riser

Late to the party again... I'll include pics of mine tomorrow

Thanks
What are the rings in your setup?
I am liking the fit and setup you got there

I think the rings at this particular time were inexpensive UTG medium 30mm rings to go with the inexpensive Mueller 8-32 scope. This rifle did the 50 yard challenge as did my 453 Varmint in a black Boyds Pro Varmint stock.

As far as the Boyds black vs coloured laminate, of which I've had both, as well as the solid walnut, I prefer the coloured laminate Pro Varmint stock. With a standard comb and standard finish, in July of 2016 the one in the following photo for a 455 Varmint cost me $263.35 (CAD) all in, delivered to my door.

Since you have owned all types, if you prefered the black look, would you

Buy the black one as it is?
Or buy a laminate or walnut and then have a black paint job on it?

I keep hearing that the textured black tacticools are soft, are they that soft and that cheap?

I have a savage btvss that ended up with a cracked stock. I bought the gun originally in like 2012 I think? Anyways, I got a new thumbhole stock from savage to replace the thumbhole that was cracked, and the grip on the new thumbhole is quite a bit different. I'm honestly quite undecided if I like it. It is certainly less comfortable in my hand of that I am certain. My older thumbhole had a much thicker grip. That being said though, I find I am smoother pulling the trigger with this skinnny uncomfortable grip on the newer boyds. Go figure...

If it makes your decision any easier though, and if the CZ boyds stocks are the same as the savage ones, I personally wouldn't buy another boyds thumbhole. Pro varmint or evolution would probably be the way I'd go.

I should probably just try to fix my old thumbhole that cracked along a lamination, maybe I could glue it back together.

ok I have a few pics -- this gun is now all DIP dipped up. I have the trigger down too OZ's ( hair trigger ) passed bump tests used DIP adj sear with YoDave kit.

DIP - 25MOA rail extended
DIP - extended mag release
DIP - Aluminum mag well
DIP - Adj. sear
YoDave kit
YoDave 10% heavier firing pin spring

Waiting for Tactical Bolt handle from across the pond

I still might part with this stock Boyds Pro Varmint for a MDT LSS chassis

awaiting 30mm rings for my SWFA 16x scope I'm mounting on this rig. can't seem to find a set I like.

I was thinking of going that boyds pro vam with tac pro riser also.

Does MDT Make a chassis for the CZ 452 in 22lr ? (now I'm interested, I thought it was only KRG and it runs you 1000 bucks...)

EDIT just looked, only for the 455... Sad.

Brocolt, i am loving your setup and will strive for the very same.
Tacticool black plus tacpro cheekrest.
Will look up leupold rings and see.

Is yours a 452 or 455?
MDT seem to only have 455 options

that is a 455 model, I also have 4 more CZ rifles & one is a 452 but might make the chopping block. check your rail and make sure it's 11mm or 3/8"

I'm about to ship back a DIP 25 MOA extended 3/8" rail to the US for replacement if someone needs it I'd rather sell it here then ship it back.
