CZ 457 Varmint vs Tikka T1X

Can’t say right now but got 35k trough my cz mtr and just bought a tikka upr, mtr is a fantastic shooter, tikka is promising with good group with cci standard velocity and sk standard plus, got good group at 100 meters with both, still getting used to the chassis.

I have both the t1x and 457, the t1x magazines have a problem with some target ammo, SK Plus doesn't feed well nor does Eley. A buddy also has issues with the T1 not feeding some brands of target ammo. Accuracy wise not much to choose between the rifles i have other than reliability, then CZ feeds flawlessly, never considered getting the 17hmr barrel, spend enough on 22 ammo without getting the extra expense of 17.

That’s interesting. I rarely had issues with Eley branded stuff feeding through my T1X factory mags. Some SKLRM that I had it was every mag had 1 or 2 that would not chamber properly. Aftermarket mags fixed most of the issues. (NDr Shooting Supplies)

Do you run any of the match ammo stuff through either ? Allot of people have luck with the CCI but I haven't been able to get it locally. I can get a bunch of different Eley though from the lower end Club all the way up to TENEX. I want to try a few boxes of Team next. I will also try that CCI when I find some.

Tried Eley club with the TIKKA and she hate it, got a box of Eley tenex biathlon to try tomorrow, will see…..

Whatever you get, it's become quite apparent to me that lot testing is important if you are really trying to get the most consistent accuracy out of the rifle.

My CZ457 varmint build loves a particular lot of Eley match I found... but my latest CZ457 hunting rifle with a sporter barrel not so much. It didn't like either lot of Eley match I had on hand at 50 or 100y, so next range visit I'll run a few boxes of different SK to see if there is something in there it likes.

Granted, we're talking about 1" groups @ 100y shrinking to .75" or less with a good lot so it is diminishing returns on much more expensive ammo... just depends on how much you're willing to spend and what your goals for the rifle are.

I also had great success with bolt shims to tighten up the headspace to squeeze even more performance out of the varmint.
