CZ 527, 7.62x39 success

Another bullet I've loaded with good results in my SKS is the Hornady .312" 174gr RN at 1780 fps MV. Cycles fine with very good accuracy and energy is 1000 ft-lbs at 75 yards.

x39 No.1 should be equal to the .30-30 with 170gr at 2100 fps. Hornady Handbook .30-30 data lists their 170gr bullet at 2100 fps from a 20" barrel.

170gr .30-30 Winchester, Federal and Remington factory loads muzzle speed listed as 2200 fps (24" barrel) -

I load 165gr Speer spitzer bullets in my .30-30 Hand-Rifle (22" barrel) at 2300 fps, a near maximum load.

Since I safely get 2450 fps with 150gr bullets in my No.1, 2150 fps with 180gr bullets should be a piece of cake. :d

Reloader 7 works great in m y Zastava rifle with the 125gr bullets. Nice value for the money rifle in the Zastava, vs the much more expensive CZ527...FS

I'm getting an honest 2250 from a 20" barrel using RL 15. In the reloading recipies forum Eagleye says he's getting 2300 using Leverevolution, which I'll be trying next.

I use that in my .30-30 load with the Speer 165gr at 2300 fps MV.

I had a look back in my load notes. Important to write chit down when developing handloads. With my x39 No.1 I got 2175 fps muzzle speed with the 170gr .308 NP using propellant Z with no apparent excessive pressure signs. A bit more speed should be possible.

Never recommending anyone to try this of course, but the 180gr RN .308 should do about 2150 fps. Chronograph to verify. Chamber pressure would be lofty. For illustration purposes with my rifle only, the limiting factor should be chamber/barrel strength (rather than block strength since it acts as an abutment, or bolt lug shear strength since it doesn't have those). The barrel is probably made of AISI 4140 and, if so, chamber/barrel stress levels should be below yield level -

A 180gr RN .308 bullet impacting at ~2000 fps should be enough to take out big Moose shoulder and spinal chord. Only 1 way to find out.

Might be harsh... but IMO, anyone aiming at a moose shoulder with a 7.62X39 is a DUFOUS... even with propellant "Z."
