CZ 527 Carbine in 7.62x39... gem or junk?

Oh look, I'm in the "I've got a use for the 7.62x39" camp.

RAR showed up last night. Decision now is to get iron sights, red dot or glass

get a holosun 407c with rail mount and you're all set, likely perfect match for that set up, slap it on at the front of the rail and everything will line up as it should, cheek weld, dot height etc., do this over iron sights imo

no batteries required, faster than irons due to full 360 view around the dot and couple other reasons, and minimal fuss, mount it to front of rail and dot size will appear more like 3.5 moa although advertised as 2 moa (at pistol length eye relief), I put one of these on my little bolt action 6.5 grendel at the front of the action and it's awesome, still shot moa group at 206 yards while zeroing

Hmmm, think I have an older reflex sight sitting around somewhere

it's hard to get a combo low enough, this one works, and matches eye alignment to a 1" scope in low rings for natural quick shooting

this is a howa grendel but I have couple savage rimfire set up on their factory single slot front base as well and works good, batteries optional, it's proper quality and would match your new ruger perfectly, I have ruger American ranch grendels also so pretty much same set up, I pull the rails off my rugers and use talley 1" low rings with trijicon scopes on those but could easily yank that factory rail or use it with this set up and alignment will be there, for cleaner top of action I would pull the factory rail and just use a basic 3 slot low profile front weaver type base like I did on the howa in that picture, then you hand has smoother interface with carrying and handling on the top of the action with the holosun on a 3 slot rail, my rimfire on on the factory single slot weaver bases up front and I just removed the rear base and put screw hole filler screw in the back empty holes, did same with howa in picture, clean, no fat

In mine I load 25.5 grs of H4198,Fed large rifle primer and a 123gr Privi or Hornady SP for .5" 100 yard groups. Switching to magnum primers shrank previous 1" groups in half? For bigger game 29gr of H335 and Sierra's .311 150gr SP grouping at .85". Brass is Privi. Hunting partner's daughter dropped her first moose at 75yards with the 123gr Privi handload.

That looks very slick!

I am thinking about taking a page filler from your book and just removing the rail from my Ruger American and replacing it with a single Weaver #46 base and mounting a Sig Romeo5 directly to that, some day. Like you said, no fat...and not quite so tall.

As for 7.62x39 and junk ammo, I like it pretty much for one reason. Practicing offhand and from field positions. Not too many people can beat 3 MOA that way anyway, so its nice, and cheap. Really don't feel like reloading or paying factory non-steel case ammo prices for that!

Just had mine out today with a scope, only shot it irons prior, put a 1.5-5x32 on it and with some handloads (30gr WC735, 123gr Speer SP) it was putting every mag full into an inch or less at 100m.
The 2 guys I was with sighting in our rifles with were pulling out their wallets getting into a bidding war in the gravel pit trying to buy it lol.
She's not for sale...too pretty to part with and shoots way too good.

I had one I liked but it had some quirks. The front sight was the wrong height and I had to replace it. The action was very rough. The trigger had a weird step in it just at the break although I was able to get the weight to where it was pretty nice, almost like a two stage.the stock chipped out behind the action but didn't split. The barrel had a spot under the rear sight boss that was slightly bigger in the bore, you could feel it when pushing a patch through. It was accurate and comfortable to shoot, it had a nice big buttplate, fed well and I liked the magazine system although I had to fix that too, the bottom plate on the mag would slide off under recoil. I also had a 550 that looked great but was exceedingly rough to cycle, took distracting effort, and the trigger was terrible.
