Afternoon, for the last decade been out of the precision rifle game and been busy hunting. I custom built exactly this rifle ten years ago before the barreled action was a factory option, and I’m rebuilding it as it was my most fun precision rifle due to the modest weight and size.
Now I’m out of touch with the current field of optics, ten years ago I used mostly Mark 4s and one each S&B & IOR. I’d like a somewhat lighter weight, extreme elevation optic and I’d prefer a Leupold option as I get a healthy pro discount on one scope a year and it’s a new year. I don’t need huge magnification and would rather focus on a smaller optic to keep it easy to carry, handle, and shoot offhand here and there. As for magnification we do lots of 1000 yard with M14s and NM sights- 6x seems really good in comparison long as there’s a load of elevation adjustment.
FFP with a TMR or other milling style reticle is a must as I enjoy unknown range shots and measuring targets, most of the game we play at the airstrip at work. So what’s out there now with a 30mm tube (largest rings for CZ527), extreme elevation adjustment (I don’t want to deal with bases on top of the flat / zero MOA integral mounts on the 527). I would consider a 34mm Mark 6 and reaming rings, as I love how compact some of the models are for the elevation offered. Max objective would be 50mm with the ring height.
Thoughts? They’re appreciated.
