I recently picked up a used CZ 527 in 7.62x39 and something is wrong with what I assume is the mag catch. Magazines don't "click" in smoothly and can be very difficult to remove. Earlier I had the action removed from the stock in case inletting was the issue but it still had trouble. Anyone experience something similar or have ideas on how to remedy this? I have another CZ that functions perfectly so I will try swapping parts but I'd rather not go that route.
Thanks

Check , And make sure the magazine is not out of shape. I have a Parker & Hale 1200. Had the same issue. Magazine was out of shape. Where the end that feeds the bullets into the chamber. I squared the end with a brass hammer. Now it works fine. I would compare both mags.

I had the same issue. It was fixed by loosening the screw in front of the magwell. If the magwell screw is too tight it clamps your mags tighter.
Let me know if that fixes your problem, I'm sure it's the same problem I had so my suggestion should fix it.

Before loosening anything My 527 was insanely tight when I got it. I got it second hand but barely used with 3 mags. Strangely 1 magazine has a spring shaped differently than the other two but all work. Initially the action was so tight it bounced dummy rounds out of the magazine as I cycled the action. My 1 mod was a slight filing of one edge of one magazine with would ride on the bolt as it cycled. Anyway after several oilings/wipe ups I cycled the action for at least 300 dummy round firings then when it began cycling properly I took it to the range and put real ammo in it. After 100rds in the rifle went from shooting Barnaul 3inches to 8oclock to centre groups with irons. With a scope I can use any ammo in my inventory for groups 1 inch or less if I do my part with a 2-7 vortex at 100m.

Don't treat this little rifle like a baby. Force the clip in and pull out the mag. Put some oil on it and repeat the process a few dozen times. Treat it like a milsurp it can take it. Now that mine is broken in its great fun to shoot and after carrying it for one hunt i know it will be making it back next year. One issue i had was that on one occasion i did not put the magazine in forcefully enougb for it to catch. To the guns credit it held on to that magazine for a bit of hiking before I relialized the issue. After that I made sure I pushed the mags on firmly till they clicked every time. My advice for attrition get 2 or 3 mags if you plan to hunt with this rifle. My only complaint is the inability to top load this rifle easily.

I have had 4 different CZ 527s. All have the same problem if you tighten the screw too tight. All you have to do is loosen a little bit and the problem goes away. You don't have to mess around with the mags. Anytime you take the stock off, just remember not to over tighten. Seriously it's that simple.

Your suggestion is 100% wrong. I suggest not offering advice if you havent a clue what you're talking about. Captain K is correct in what is likely the solution to this issue.

And the rifle comes with a detchable magazine for a reason. Top loading is time consuming and pointless on rifles with detachable box magazines.

Furthermore your magazines should insert and extract with ease. If you have to slam them then your action screw is too tight. You got your rifle used which means there is a very high probability the previous owner separated the stock from the action and f**ked up the reassembly. Try loosening both action screws. Tighten the rear until snug then do the front screw until snug.

Sounds like the mag release is jammed. Been there. I own several CZs and Brnos. When reassembling on your lap or bench you want the bolt side down. Install the action ensuring that the magazine release spring is properly attached to the action and be careful not to disturb it while replacing the action in the stock. Now turn the stock upside down. Next start to install the trigger group while holding the "properly installed" magazine release in position. Slide the trigger/floor plate/ mag box assembly in far enough so the mag release can't drop out. Next use a fine screwdriver or piece of coat hanger to slide between the mag box and the wood in order to ever so slightly pry the magazine retaining spring down towards the wood while pushing the floor plate fully into the wood. At this point if you now hold everything together, your magazine should easily slide into the box and click. Now insert the screws and torque to spec. Recheck to make sure you can easily insert and remove the magazine. When I first took a CZ 527 apart, I jammed up the release spring making it impossible to remove the magazine. Research on line and my own investigation yielded the above process. It is an absurd design but once you have done the assembly a few times it becomes an easy routine.

Firstly, thank you all for the suggestions.
I regret to say I have tried them to no avail. Four magazines all get jammed, a replaced spring didn't help, and it is not an inletting/assembly issue. I am of the belief that the magazine latch itself is out of spec. Does anyone know where I can order a new one to test this theory?

Had my 527 out today, a copper shim between the mag release and receiver remedied the mag release issues for now. It ate czech and russian surplus, actually giving some decent groups with them. However, a few times the bolt was difficult to close on 2014 production norinco non corrosive. Anyone else have this experience?

Looks like he got banned. Break the guns in the way you want. What indie corrected all ished with my rifle.
