CZ 550 fs

Hahaha... I like your way of explaining it! I have only owned one in 375H&H. Cut it down to a 20" barrel and it was a handy heavy hitter even though it felt like a club. It took some getting used to but it was a very well built rifle, no question.

Resurrection...

I think you are referring to the 550 Lux...

I have a number of CZ FS rifles, below is a picture for comparison... the top rifle is a 452 FS in LR, the center rifle is a 527 FS in .223, both of which have a nice slim profile and delicate feel... the 550 FS however, as you suggest, is "thick in the grip" with a totally different feel to it... it is somewhat blocky, but it is a fine rifle and I enjoy the feel none-the-less... I vastly prefer the flush mag and mag release of the 550, compared to the 527... so it is a wash as to which I like better.

I had one in. 270 and sold it. It wasn't for me. I didn't like the way the end cap fastened to the end of the stock with a tiny wee screw and nut and I didn't find that it pointed that quick, certainly not like a 94. I ended up selling it as it just wasn't for me. I still have the lux in 9.3x62 and I love that rifle, just not the FS. My 2 cents.

The end cap sleeves the barrel and is held in place with a set screw, just to keep it from sliding off... just like Remington and Ruger versions... never had problems with any of them... fit is something personal, it fits me well, but clearly not you... my one issue is the one already discussed, namely the thickness of the grip area... I am debating on recontouring that area for better feel.

I have a CZ550FS in 9.3 and I will admit to being skeptical about how it would fit, recoil and that sort of thing but it is a very comfortable rifle at least for me.
And given the fact that it has a short barrel the accuracy is better than I expected.
Hopefully if I stay healthy it will get out in the field this Fall

They're interesting rifles. Mine is in 6.5x55 and it has a different feel. The trigger's a reach and I have to creep up on the scope on high power. Also, in typical Euro fashion, one has to use a 'chin' rather than 'cheek' weld. Third from right.. I think it's one of the older stock style as the pistol grip doesn't have the hook like Hoyt's and the checkering is different...

Also... Trigger is nice, wood is acceptable as well as accuracy. Action is long, and not very slick. Sadly, I've been tainted by Mannlicher Shoenauer.
