Still looking at different CZ models for casual IDPA and IPSC. I like the beavertail on the Omega and the apprently improved trigger.
Has anyone used an Omega?
Is the trigger much better than the 75B?
I asked this question awhile back, and the answer i got was, get the Shadow instead.
I am leaning that way but the SP01 shadow is too heavy for IDPA (IIRC?) without costly changes to get a few ounces off, unless something has changed?
I like the 85 Combat but dont like the beavertail...
The omega trigger is a simplified (read:cheaper to make) design. They are problematic, at best. A quick google shows you lots of issues with them. Stick with the "normal'' triggers, IMO.
What he said x2.
CZ makes teh 85Combat and the 75B on the new frame. Lts of old stcok floating around yet. Bug the importer to bring in the newer versions with the SP-01 style beavertail.
Take Care

I would not sweat the beavertail issue. I've got both the Shadow and an old pre-b 75. When I lay them side by side I can see the difference. When I go from shooting one to the other it simply is such a small difference that I can't feel a thing. Wait, that's not true. The regular "skinny end" 75 balances in the hand a little nicer. But here again it's one of those things you only notice when you pick the guns up one after the other
I really do like the Shadow but if I had to have only one gun for shooting both IPSC and IDPA I would not hesitate at all to buy an 85Combat for the better non FP block trigger and to meet the IDPA weight issue. It would be a very nice dual purpose gun.
Yes the greater front weight of the Shadow will technically make it rise less during recoil. But us regular folks simply are not good enough that we'll actually benifit from this. Meanwhile I can quickly double tap my plain 75 just fine and tend to get mostly -0's when I do.
Only if you're already at the top of your group would the Shadow perhaps give you that last little bit to make the difference and put you a spot or two higher on the podium. Or perhaps by that time your familiarity with whatever gun you're using will be easily enough to carry through for the win. With shooting skills it truly is a case of knowing the tool you use more than the features it has. So I wouldn't sweat the small stuff. Yes, if you want to go with a CZ it is worth getting a gun without the FPB. It does sweeten up the trigger. But from there it's about the sort of drills you do and how much ammo you put downrange far more than it is about gun weight or beavertail shapes.
Bob, trust me. I'm also far from immune to Shiney Object Syndrome, otherwise known as SOS.
But I've simply had my nose rubbed in the reality in too many hobbys and sports too many times over to truly believe that we can buy our ability by buying the gun, motorcycle, tennis racket or whatever else the winners use.
The reality is that if we have it in us to be on the winner's podium we'll get there as long as the tools we use are simply adequite and reliable.
