How much is there of a difference between the CZ-75B and the CZ-85 Combat besides ambidextrous features and 3-dot sights? I like the CZ-75 layout and ergonomics. What is the practical difference in sights? Sights are important to me, but not ambidextrous features. I can get a CZ-75b in all nickel, which I prefer, while it is slightly more difficult to find a CZ-85 like that. What shooting features does the CZ-85 possess over the CZ-75, if any, that would justify it's purchase for a right-handed shooter? Is there a difference in the trigger? What about mag. release?

Edit: I should mention, I don't really NEED adjustable sights, as I prefer fixed sights (not competition.) Do the CZ-85 Combat's sights provide a better sight picture than the CZ-75B?

If you don't need adjustable sight, I would suggest 75B, I have one in nickel and I love it. Anyhow go back to the sight, CZ factory sight is not that great.

Love my Tutone 75b. I can work the safety weak handed and didn't see the need for adjustable sights for IDPA. The three dot isn't that great but no worse than any standard white 3 dot sights. A front fibre optic would help if you choose that route.

The CZ-85 mags are drop-free and the trigger has an adjustable trigger stop.

The 85 Combat (and Combat is the distinction here) has no firing pin block safety.

Even in single action, a 75's last bit of trigger pull will disengage the firing pin block and "slightly" move the hammer back before firing.

This can be fixed by a good trigger job. I never liked it and sold my CZ75 because of this... It threw my shots slightly off (but was still damn accurate).

From CZ:

"features no firing pin block, which consequently helps to slightly reduce trigger pull weight and improves trigger travel properties".

Think 1911 type trigger....

I love the trigger on my Combat, for the sight, I really like the aperture, but only had to adjust it slightly when I got the gun in 2002, never had to play with them again since.

I was under the impression that all CZ 75/85 had drop-free mags?

The finish is awesome also (especially since I just got back from A'Stan... damn, does my 85C looks good and tight compare to my issued Inglis :p )

And how do I accomplish this?

Take the grip panel off and with padded needle nose pliers bend the Mag Brake flatter. Be VERY careful as it is Spring steel IIRC and can break easy.

Or, buy a flat mag brake. The 75b SA and 85b Combat have flat mag brakes that allow drop free action.

So far I have left mine stock. When doing tac reloads or Reload with Retention, you can drop the mag while reaching for replacement. Doing speed reloads only requires a small downwards jerk whilen thumbing the mag release.
Mind you I have only done this in practice so far, not competition.
I'll decide one way or the other at the end of this season.

CZShooters forum has lots of info.

The 75b can be easily modified at home to have drop free mags.

I took a strip of flat brass I had and put a little curl at one end, trimmed a little so it would fit. Still have the original to go back in if I wanted to.

I had the strip of brass handy. If I didn't I would have taken a pop can and cut a strip off it and used it. You can cut it with a decent pair of scissors. Great for shim stock also. And free!

Good idea.
Try that this weekend.

So what is the consensus here? Which of the CZ-75B and CZ-85 Combat has the best trigger? Things seem to be leaning towards the CZ-85 in overall build quality.

I require a CZ pistol that is all nickle-plated, has a great trigger, and decent or upgradeable sights. Drop-free mags strongly preferred. I don't really even need double action or ambidextrous capability or a decocker, but I'm willing to buy a nickle CZ-85 if it is better. What model best fits my needs?

I have both the 75B and the 85 combat as well as the SP-01. I like the trigger on my 85 combat the best. The SP-01 is deadly accurate and looks hot to me. I swapped out the standard rubber grips (put them on my 85 combat) and put on cocobola wood grips. Now it looks and feels great. The rubber grips on my 85 feel great and help my shooting significantly. My son likes shooting the 85 the most. With my 75B in matte Nickel I have attached a .22 Kadet conversion kit for my youngest son to shoot. He love it and it is deadly accurate as well. I love CZ's!!!
