cz 858 bore rust

This thread was awesome. I'm buying a 858 just so I can be a part of this conversation. But I have learned a lot of stuff here so thanks for all those that contributed..

Not sure if what I learned was helpful but learned stuff non-the-less

There are a ton of ppl that speak against Bore Butter on blackpowder forums... But i agree it smells good.

I'll bet those people dress like Grizzly Adams and advocate using only sperm whale oil or bear fat ! ;)

Bore Butter has preserved my BP horse pistols for years with NO CLEANING !

No carbon or lead built up in the bores !

Good enough for me - I hate cleaning guns

I Have been pondering the purchase 858 for some time now.... Thus I took the time to read most of this thread... And I have to say it was a very entertaining:slap:... Thanks to all who were involved.

I can't imagine owning a gun that takes so much work, time and effort to clean! I don't even like cleaning guns that don't shoot corrosive ammo and have a chrome liked barrel! :p

Amazing, i have only heard a cople guys mention CLP. Great stuff!!!. It does it all, maby not as quickly in the cleaning dept. but when you do pull clean you can be sure it is.
There is a good reason why this is the stuff that gets issued to the guys that fire nothing but gas operated firearms loaded with corrosive ammo.

It's not difficult at all.

I only give my 858s a thorough cleaning every 3-500 rounds or 4 or 5 range trips. In between cleanings I spray some WD40 down the bore and in gas block and pull a bore snake through before I shoot it again.

Zero rust, cheap ammo, and minimal effort. YMMV.

I hate to re-open a painfull debate, but I have to wonder if there is some truth to the idea that some barrels are different. The people who see loads of rust seem to be doing the same things as people who have none, some in the same geographic area. Perhaps those barrels were heavily rusted and scrubed before (you know how rust is once it gets started), or maybe there is some chemical composition difference. It would explain the major differences between rifle corrosion.

Humidity or barrel composition may play a factor, to be sure.

I think the real reason my 858 doesn't rust is because it was touched by the hand of Westicle.

I know I am going to pay for this........this CLP, is that the stuff that removes copper lead and ? that you see advertized cleaning up shower heads and the like? Cause after reading all this I will now give my wife the Windex I bought and use the BIG WD-40 I bought to stop squeaking hinges......:(. Sounds the water patch and Gunzilla (I also bought) is the method I'll use. By the way, immediatly after shooting, and prior to the home cleaning, as I have used the gunzilla in the bore....is there any thing to be done.

CLR = Sinks

CLP = Guns

As for the gunzilla, just follow the directions and you can't go wrong. Apply, wipe dry, leave a bit of wet on moving surfaces.

Why oh why do I do that to myself..................LOL. I realized that when I checked out the house hold cleaners............hahaha

Gee.......thanks Stevo. I got that baby cleaned and Gunzillized. Next step to site in the Burris red dot. That stuff is slippery........damn near dropped my can of suds. There should be a warning label!!!:p

Those FastFires can be a PITA to sight in. There's no clicks on the adjustments, so you can end up hunting back and forth for the right spot.

Mines the speed dot 135 with the 3moa dot. Very good system. I actually had it on a shot gun and shot trap with it.
