why not just go buy a long screwdriver?
I used the same screwdriver I used on the buttstock of my SMLE. It worked fine without resorting to destructive measures
I found that a 24" inch flat tip from Princess Auto worked very well, but I had to grind the tip down until it was flatter and wider than when I bought it. I also has a squared shaft, so a vice-grip came in handy too. The driver was $5.99 at PA.

Holly s**t guys , just buy the a flat head bit socket from your local Snap-on Tool truck. They have one that fits perfictly with no play. Its on a 1/2 drive, I bought one for $36 and removed my stock like butter.
The right tool for the job.............
