CZ 858 VS Norinco M4

Dont base your opinion of a VZ58 on an SKS. There is no comparison. After buying a VZ58S, I sold my SKS-D. The SKS-D was a good, reliable, cheap to feed gun, but the VZ is way more accurate. I have a cheapo red-dot on mine right now,and it is very accurate. I like my VZ so much, in fact, that I sold my Armalite M4 because The VZ is so much cheaper to feed, and reasonably accurate.
That said, I was playing with a Norinco M4 the other day, it felt like a pretty nice gun for 900 dollars. Both guns have a really good piss off a lieberal factor, so you cant go wrong either way.
I would go with the VZ/CZ858 just for the cost of ammo.

I can't speak for the Norc, but I have fired thousands of rounds through the AR full length platform with very little hickups. It is a very accurate rifle, more accurate than the vz.

But I also own a CZ 858 and put a crate of surplus through it and love it, more than the ar. Its light, relatively accurate, cheap to feed, and a blast to shoot. I find the VZ platform much more comfortable, and i like the 7.62 kick it has compared to the 5.56. I also find the 858 to be a much better looking rifle, thats just me though.

I say go with the Vz first, with a crate or tow of ammo.

Im definitely leaning towards the 858. Its practical, especailly since Im going to have a crate of ammo for it already. What do you guys who shoot corrosive ammo do for it? Is there a standard procedure? Windex, boiling water? Is commercial ammo available? Excuse my ignorance with regards to ammunition.

i take my 858 apart just leave the barel and triger assembally in along with the butt stock.

i then spray her and her internals down with windex and all so the barrel.

then i quickly spray her down with wd 40

then i run some patches till the barrel is clean

last patch with some burks gun oil.

oil up the parts use a nice oil based lubricant.

use a microfiber cloth to whipe her down.

I can get 1.5MOA from my 858. That is well within the expectations of a basic M4.

Here is my take on why an 858 is a better buy.

1. Rifle is cheaper meaning more money for ammo which is really the important part.

2. Ammo is cheaper generally by half.

3. 858 can be non restricted so you can hunt, plink whatever whenever you want.

4. There are more accessories for the M4 though. Sadly most come from the US leaving you with a limited selection.

As for buying the 858. Wolverine sells it with a "parts kit." Has anyone bought this, is it worth it?

Also, how bad is the original furniture on the gun? I want to throw the wood on there, any pics from anyone that has?

Lastly, if anyone has used the muzzle brakes for this gun, how well do they work?

Ive pretty much decided im going with the CZ, but for the threads information sake, im still open to both sides.

Sure, if you break or lose parts, it is.

It lets you hold the gun just fine. Are you more concerned with looks than function?

The brake I've got works very well.

One thing to consider about ammo is the only 7.62x39 that is available in quanties is the dirty chez stuff. Anyone see what noncorrosive goes for now? What happens when its gone. 223./5.56 can be hanloaded and tweeked for accuracy. 7.62 can not be reloaded as easily, i think i read somwhere that the VZ does not like brass as much as steel case. Now before somone says 7.62 can be reloaded easily, componets like brass and proper bullets are not nearly as available as 223.

Get the M4 first, then 858 later.

For the price of the Norinco, you can get an 858 and a case (1120 rounds) of ammo.

For the price of the Norinco and a case of .223, you can get an 858 and three cases (3360 rounds) of ammo.

If you want a rifle to look at, get the Norinco. If you want one to shoot, get the 858.

How are you guys getting a sight on it, just drilling a rail into the handguard?

Here's one way, Burris FastFire on an Infratek rail.
