Don't stress yourself about the colour of the stocks. Just get matching colour and grain (if possible) and then sweat, strip, sand, stain to your desired colour, then finish with tung oil or linseed (or whatever you like). Personally I'd go with darker wood and the red would be deeper. Of course you can do a lot of things if you are handy with stains.

Getting mismatched wood and trying to stain it to match is not easy. Been there, done that. A lot of trial and error. For $25 more I'd get the close matched set.

Don't be afraid of a beat up set too, I got a POS set on Ebay and I refinished it, thought it looked cool as hell. If you plan on shooting your rifle, your beautiful wood will get messed up eventually.

If you get nice matching wood with good figure, you may just want to oil it and keep it as it is. Oil finish looks awesome on a Czech rifle. All I did on this VZ24 is sweat out the cosmo, use very fine steel wool to open the pores and used Linseed oil.

Just be careful with those UHG, they can be fragile when removing. I broke a couple in my day. Crazy glued one back together Laugh2

If Wolverine got any Wooden VZ58 Bayonets, I would like to buy one!!!

We don't have any of the wood handled bayonets or the wood for the bayonets and it doesn't appear that we will be able to get any.

Don't forget that you don't necessarily need to refinish, a few dark marks and nicks give it the authentic look.

Thanks anyway. I already have a nice set of wood for my VZ58, don't need anything else besides the wooden bayonet, which I would try to match my other furniture.
 
If anyone stains them you NEED TO put the prep work in and strip them good. Do it 3-4 times with good stripper. You cannot leave any cosmoline in the wood or it will be blotchy and may not even take in areas. Prep should take you a day including dry time, If it doesn't your doing it wrong and you will have the strip the stain off.

Alos, Don't use paint strippers naked in the AM. It tingles and burns on contact with skin.
 
I called to ask when they are going to be available for purchase on the website, I was told it will likely be tomorrow not today. They need to finish preparing them. Keep an eye on the website still obviously.
