CZ Bren2 Owner: Info, Pics, Mods

Anyone know the best place to get one of these currently? Goal is to make it nonres but 11/14/16 would be great. Just not into the 8". Hoping someplace will have a good black Friday sale.

The second question where can I get 18.5" barrel with 1/7 twist. Any company where I can get that barrel and get it reclassed?

Tagged. I don't think there are any non-restricted versions or barrels to reclassify? I'd be very happy to be incorrect.

If you look at their website it shows barrels for the 5.56 long gas system still available

You need to have a 16" or similar to do the long gas conversion no?

11" is short gas which means majority of the imported R's are Out of luck currently.

Talked to a few local stores and they're stating the Bren conversion is drying up due to the political environment.

You could contact herron arms, he can likely do the conversion on whatever model you purchase, won't be as cheap but you are late to the dlask party

Just went through this whole thread and it’s making me want to take out a loan for a bren 2 but I have a question, it’s my understanding that the 7.62 version needs a conversion block to use ar mags, that being the case is it possible for me to get a 7.62 gun and the adapter and a 5.56 upper and have one gun to shoot two calibers ? How easy is it to swap uppers and how hard is it to get uppers

Theoretically that would work, but unlike an AR the upper is the serialized bit of the firearm, and frankly the lowers are so cheap (compared to the upper) there really isn’t much point swapping back and forth versus just having two separate firearms.

The STANAG adapter is a 5 minute mod. I’ve done it so I can run the 10 round pistol magazines rather than the OEM pinned 30 rounder. If the sky ever fell, I’d be reversing that mod :)

Ah my mistake I was under the assumption the lower was the “firearm” same question tho how hard is it to swap calibers, I assume bolt, barrel/ gas block, and mags are needed ?

Honestly man, for all the things that make the Bren fantastic, trying to get a single Bren to be both a 5.56 and a 7.62x39 would be a major pain in the ass. If you're envisioning an AR scenario where you swap an upper, the bolt itself and the mags and voila, calibre swap complete, this isn't going to be so easy with a Bren. Hard to explain until you have one in front of you.

Fair enough I’ll probably save up and just get a 5.56 one, easier to integrate with my other rifles and gear

I got my rifle back from RDSC last week. They said their reamers were faulty and now they made it a custom chamber to my bolt instead of a mass produced spec.

The gas block is still touching the hand guard. Now it's pressing on it even harder. They said they shot a 1 MOA group with it.

Can't seem to get PMC Bronze 55gr to cycle properly on regular gas setting. Mostly FTF and occasionally FTE, last round also fails to hold bolt open. Works fine in the adverse setting.

Federal XM 223 55gr worked like a charm on regular setting.

My rifle is the 8" version. Anyone ran into similar issues?

My 8" Bren runs like a sewing machine with everything but some frang. The frang will fire and eject but the odd one will not lock the bolt back in an empty chamber.
All ball ammo runs in mine.

The action is most likely still settling in? How many rounds have you cycled through the rifle? Rather than sanding and polishing, I've always been of the school to just keep everything that moves wet, sooner or later it will lap and polish itself to where it needs to be.

Non-converted 556 and 762 (except some early ones) Brens run like a charm and do not require "settling in" or "breaking in". Just saying.

About 600-700 rounds so far. Will shoot more and report back.

That said, I've cleaned and lubed it since the last range trip. Hopefully that will help.
