Has anyone seen a 455 Scout at a dealer yet? I need one with a 17 hmr barrel. whoohoo, now that will be a fun gopher gun.

I think you will look for a long time.Scouts are only offered in 22lr with a 16" barrel and iron sights. With a barrel swap in 17hmr you could get an american barrel @ 20.5" but no iron sights.Gopher shooting with a scope is no brainer.

How about getting a gunsmith to shorten a 17 hmr American barrel set and fitting it into the 455 Scout's action? I am tempted to do it with the 17 and with the wmr.

Does anyone make a 17hmr with a 16" barrel. That would be my first search,if they don't there may be a reason? Sounds like it could be a cool option.:)

As a side thought the scout only has a 12" length of pull I had to use a1" butt plate from a Tikka to fix that on my 452 Scout.

Anschutz makes a compact 1517 in 17 hmr with a 14 in barrel:

Looks like a nice hunting rig. I however will stick with my beloved CZ Scout. I agree, adding a bigger butt pad or even just a slip on butt pad to the Scout makes a big difference.

If you're in thick bush, why would you be using a .17 HMR?

Because you can?

I agree, 22WMR or 22LR are better options when hunting in the thick bush only. Many people, including myself, will entertain the 17 when hunting in a variety of terrain where longer shots may be required (think open areas/clearings in the bush).

This where my 452 scout lives now.I shoots under 1/2" @ 50yds. I also have an evo stock for a 455. With the 455 evo you can put any barrel on there that cz make. I have also shot under 1/2" with a 455 evo combo. I will attempt the 50yd with a 16.5" threaded 455 evo combo soon. :d

Very nice Ronnie.

I am also thinking about doing the 1/2 in challenge with my carbon fibre Scout sometime soon. If you are interested, just shoot me a message when ready and we can give it a try together.

CC s. 84(1) “prohibited firearm” (d): If the barrel has been SHORTENED to less than 18″/457mm, after leaving the factory, “by sawing, cutting or ANY other alteration or modification” that forces the firearm into the “prohibited firearm” class.

It is not Legal/OK to shorten a factory barrel to less then 18"
