CZ Shadow 2 Questions

Hello everyone, very new to the game and wanted some advice.
Still waiting for my first firearm, CZ Shadow 2 and was looking to have some upgrades on hand for when it gets here.
Here are a few questions so anything you can advise on any of the questions would be appreciated:

1) Magwell and Grips:
- Are there any magwell that fit over the stock grips? If so where would I find them?
- If I need the short grips, where can I get both?
- Has anyone had experience with the magwells? Are they helpful or maybe more fashionable? I've seen some youtube vids where they seem to have to grind or file out some of the gun to make it functional.
- If anyone has photos of their combinations. Steering towards the aluminum silver combo.

2) Recoil Spring
- I find the slide a bit stiff compared to other high end firearms. Would it help to lower the spring weight. i think I saw 11 lbs to be common. Would i need to do any other upgrades for make that better?

3) I really like the trigger and likely won't play with that.

4) I'm left handed so need to swap over the magazine release. I think i saw a video on that.

5) I read the thread on the extended safety and mine did not come with it either. I can't use it anyways being left handed I need it short to reach the slide stop with my finger. It's actually really easy and functional for me.

6) Any other mods you would say you did that provided good bang for the buck?

Thanks in advance,

Kevin

Skip the magwell unless you have a need for fast reloads on the move, like IPSC Standard division. Your magazine basepads may not fit the magwell. Turns the whole thing into costing a few hundred dollars.

You’ll usually match the recoil spring to the power of your ammo. The slide will loosen a bit as it breaks in too. I’m using a 10 pound recoil spring, but I make softer shooting ammo compared to factory.

Get someone to show you how to shoot, and make use of that great gun. Put your money towards ammo at this point. The gun doesn’t need anything, except oil and love.

Thanks so much. I am interested in your PM and I messaged you back.

LOK grips in the palm swell bogie with thumb relief are my favorite for the Shadow 2 and TS models. In the past they have shipped to Canada.

I think you can get the extended safety, right hand side. If not from Canada, then from Europe, places like Sebo shop (5 week delivery for my recent order).

I don't think a mag well is all that important. The speed improvement is fairly minor, and it bumps you out of Production division in IPSC, and depending on the magwell, maybe even out of Standard division. Instead, i would recommend getting the Mecgar magazines, and adding their +2 base pads. The Mecgar mags are better than CZ, and the base pad is excellent for mag manipulation.

Thanks so much, great advice. I don’t think I’ll be competing but who knows may take a stab once I’m a marksman. My marshal watching me shoot 60 rounds when I was just investigating was really impressed. LMAO.

I think I like the magwell for looks and possibly comfort holding my hand, but is more looks. I love the aluminum silver combined with a black magwell and black base pads. I assume the +2 isn’t functional. I’d love to get higher capacity mags just for the range. I know, it’s not legal.

A magwell is really only useful if you're competing or you just want the look. For the most part if you have a magwell you're going to need different grips than you would without. I much prefer the Henning grips over the Lok grips, I like metal vs plastic. Also much prefer his basepads for my guns. For springs, throw in a 9 or 10lb recoil spring, 11lbs is too much with the heavier slide and you get muzzle dipping when shooting fast. I was running an 8, but have switched a 9. Hammer spring, get a 10lb hammer spring, a super light firing pin spring and you're good to. Eeman Tech, sebo weapons, IPSC 4 You, and Cesar shop all sell fantastic springs and spare parts for the guns. If you want a shorter, crisper, reset get the Eeman disconnector, it's not MIM, it's actually machined and is simply gorgeous.

Thanks for the amazing tips. I have about a 12 week wait due to RCMP restrictions. I'm going to do some shopping. LOL

I bought this kit from Cesar Shop for my SP-01 Shadow. The kit has pretty much everything Slavex described - lightened main spring, recoil spring, firing pin spring and trigger return sping. Also comes with a floating trigger pin which is useful. The kit works with the Shadow 2.

If you are waiting for the the restricted transfer, you can use the postal shipping method which is cheap but takes a LONG time - I had to wait 2.5 months for my shipment to arrive. They also offer UPS shipping.

To swap the mag release for left hand, make sure you have a good quality hollow ground flat head screwdriver. You will need to take out the mag catch spring screw which is staked to the frame so it takes some effort with good tool to get out without stripping it. This is from experience in replacing my mag release with a Shadow 2 unit with the paddle and it is pretty much the same procedure as the mag release swap.

You can fairly easily swap the mag release over for a lefty. You have to remove a slotted, staked screw from the frame. I didn't bother with locktite upon installation, and it isn't backing off.

Buy 1000 rounds of Federal, Winchester, CCI factory ammo & practice. I like the S2 & it pretty much creams every auto in its price range. An outstanding 1st choice auto.
But where the S2 falls apart for superior left handed competitors is the bad, oversize magazine release. Switching it to the other side isn't an advantage. The front 1mm fiber optic sight (vs the 2mm on the S1) is just too damn small.

The overly flat right side safety:awful. Source & buy the extended OEM one, like the one standard on the SP01. Its worth it.

THat website is tricky. Am I getting the spring kit with that link or the trigger set in the youtube video. Looks like two different things.
With the trigger set do I need a different firing pin as well?

Thanks for your help. And as far as 2.5 months it will likely take that long to get my Shadow 2.

You can also check out ipscstore dot com They carry Eemann parts. Note that the Eemann main springs are measured differently than other brands, so a 10lb CZ mainspring is similar to a 7-8lb Eemann mainspring.

The recoil springs are like other brands though.

Shipping to BC for the cheap shipping method has been about 4 weeks.

Good to know.. i was just going to try some of their mainsprings.

Any issues with the Eeman Tech 8lb mainspring with factory ammo? I have extended firing pin and soft firing pin spring already installed.

Currently running 11lb ipsc4you mainspring spring and no issues, tried the 8.5 cgw and it's a no go.

I don't use factory ammo, so not sure. Any light strikes I have, are compliments of me and my ####ty Hornady press primer seating station. lol!

Just buy a variety of 7-9lb springs and play with it. I initially bought a variety of 10-13lb and they all measured about 3lb higher than labelled, when compared to other springs. Higher measured standalone, as well as with a Lyman trigger gauge after installation.

Can I sneak in and ask a question about Lok grips? There is no LOK dealer close enough to visit and I find their online grip descriptions hard to understand and they are way too pricey to order and miss. So what I want is the thinnest and most pliable (softest) grip model that they make. What "Model" name of LOK grip would fit that description? I do not want the palm swell nor the aggressive grips but more the feel of rubber type grips I have felt on the earlier Shadow models. Any suggestions ...........thanks

I believe all Lok grips are made of G10 material so they will not be pliable. For S2, "thin" is the thinnest and texturing goes from Checkered --> Roughneck --> Bogies (least to most aggressive). If you go to the Lok Grip website, they have a section that explains the thickness and texturing.

The only rubber grip I know of is the stock CZ grip for the SP-01 - but they are not thin.

That page is for the spring kit. I think they linked the wrong video on their website - this is the right video: ht ps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dmy73Kkd0jU
