Are magwells worth it for IPSC on the Shadow? and if so where would you get one.

would the extention blocks on the mags be needed?

Yes, they are absolutely worth it. Check with your local CZ dealer for parts.

maybe im just starting out, i know that sounds impossible but, still a possibility. lets try to keep the questions on track

If you maybe starting out, what division maybe you want to maybe shoot?

You can't use magwell in production and in standard minor gun will put you into a disadvantage.

Anyhow you will need longer base pads for your mags to use them with magwell.

If you are just starting out why hamstring yourself by shooting minor standard?

Magwell isnt worth it, not because it doesnt help with mag changes but because it puts in into standard shooting minor

czcustom is a great place to shop. Fast shipping to Canada, shipping costs are higher so think of all cz parts you may need or want befor placing an order.

Like all others are saying be mindful of what mods will put you into standard open or etc

If you are just starting out why worry about major/minor? A magwell is worth it because it helps with mag changes. Shooting minor in Standard is only a problem if you don't shoot all A's - something most competitors shooting major fail to do anyway.

I`ve got one on the Shadow I use for 3 gun.
CZ custom have a nice one, and yes you need the extended base pads, as well as short grips unless you hack up the stock ones.
Also, not sure if the extended base pads will fit in the IPSC box when in the gun.
Which means if they don`t, your in Open division unless you start taking material off of the brand new basepads you just shelled out $40 a piece for.
Something to ask them.

It is a nice addition to the gun though and transforms the feeling of the gun in your hands.
If you are going to convert the shadow to a standard gun, may as well go all out and get the single action flat trigger and maybe the competition hammer.

This all adds up pretty fast though ($75 magwell, $40 x 6 basepads, $85 grips = $400 + shipping and tax), and if these funds were put towards practice ammo and possibly some instruction, you would no longer be starting out, and would be good to go in Production with your stock gear, using a gun designed for that division.

I dont believe in going "im just starting out, who cares what division or if im at a very significant disadvantage because of my gear choice"

When you go out to practice reloads do you go "well im practicing reloads, who cares about my grip" or "im shooting slow fire groups today, so who cares about my stance"? Nope, no one does that and i see no reason to change that attitude when it comes to picking what pistol/gear to use.

No reason not to shoot minor standard, yeah, lose a couple of points here and there but he'll learn the value of A's. Won't have to deal with a DA pull, he can lighten the trigger as much as he wants, put adjustable sights on (good ones) and do any other mods he wants.
There is at least one guy shooting 9mm minor in Open and has for years, if you look near the top of the score sheets you'll pretty much always find him there...

Or he could just learn to soot stock Shadow without spending money on gun modifications. It will be much more benefitial for general shooting skills and when he is ready, he can choose the right gun for division of his choice, then it will be an educated choice and not a random decision guided by internet ninjas.

So t clarify there is a class to run the Shadow, thick basepads and all, in IPSC? I'm trying to procure a shadow now with the intent of possibly putting my skills up against others in some sanctioned event...eventually!
