CZ Shadow vs Shadow 2

I have an original Shadow as well as a pair of Shadow 2's so I'll share my thoughts on the value proposition. I love the 2's but the reality is the original is a fantastic gun and comparatively to me based on current pricing the much better value if the budget is a factor. I've got two new buddies that just did their Black Badge course last weekend while borrowing my guns. My advice to them as young guys on a budget is to go with the original Shadow and use the price gap to help pay for the first year range membership and ammo.

Its on the IPSC production list so wouldnt it have already been inspected by NROI ?

IPSC and USPSA are two different organizations that have different rules for production guns. You can usually get away with more mods in USPSA than IPSC. Apparently my Cz custom shadow is not legal for IPSC production but is for uspsa.

If you guys are anywhere near Semiahmoo Fish & Game Club, (in Surrey, BC), on Wed nights, drop me a line. I'm there most Wed nights, (including tonight), and you're welcome to try my old Shadow. It has been tweaked, so it's like a Shadow 1.5 lol! One of our regulars has a Shadow 2 and I'm sure he'll let you shoot it. Other members have Shadows from stock to modded. Seriously though, you will be well served with the original Shadow. The Shadow 2 has some great engineering in it that boosts the price, but it is geared to the competitive shooter. Serious IPSC guys have a backup gun anyhow, so if you buy the old Shadow and get into IPSC down the road, then it can be a backup gun if you decide to buy a Shadow 2 in the future. This gun will never be wasted money.

Thanks for the offer! But I'm too far away. I think I've already made up my mind though.

One thing I will add is that I never really liked the double action trigger pull on the shadow...my finger was just a little too short.

Beacuse the shadow 2 has more cut away from the backstrap, the double action hasn't been a problem. Plus, the heavier weight up front reduces recoil.

Np! Happy shopping. :)

I found the Shadow DA pull with factory rubber grips had the same problem as you. If I rotated the grip in my hand a bit, it would help, but wasn't ideal. Swapping to thin metal grip panels fixed it for me.

Now I also have the 85 Combat trigger in it so the DA pull is easy. In fact, I've been thinking of changing to slightly wider VZ grip panels now. :)

They do have a say in what are legal modifications and what aren't for each division.

In the context of the match, the RO/CRO and RM have a say on how to interpret the rule book with respect to modifications.....but they do not write the rules. The simply enforce them.

I know there have been some big enough issues that NROI has taken a position on them...but this doesn't really have anything to do with production gun lists nor does it typically have anything to do with modifications. It is usually more safety issue oriented or procedural type questions.

Nroi needs to inspect a pistol before it's added.

I have determined that the slide serrations are a problem for me. I prefer cocking the gun on the front serrations, however they are _very_ sharp. It's enough of a problem for me that it is slowing and wrecking some of my racking during action shooting stages. I also have a nice cut on my finger today from them, as we only shot 8 stages @ about 130 rounds total.

Anyone else at the point where the serrations are a problem and they are looking for a resolution?

They are sharp no doubt, I wouldn't' say it's a problem or that I'm looking for a resolution but I will say I definitely "feel" faster on unloaded starts with the original versus the 2 but I've never put it on the timer to verify.

I have the Shadow and I find that it fits perfectly in my hands. The stock rubber grips are my favourites, lucky me!
