CZ are coming out with a CZ SP01 with a polymer frame (adjustable backstraps and all of that jazz).

Not sure if a safety model is coming out (the one pictured has a decocker), and the major difference seems to be a reduced unloaded weight of 800 grams (rather than 1162 grams).

Since I think that the SP01 is pretty much the best new thing since sliced bread in terms of production type pistols I would say that it could make a bit of a splash as a duty pistol / IDPA pistol.

I read on an Australian IPSC forum that the Phantom is embargoed from civilian use until March 2008, so I guess we could see it sometime after that.

Interesting. The Phantom would certainly make more sense as a duty gun than the regular SP-01, which is way too heavy to be carried all day.

Ok, first off, SP in the name means Service Pistol - that's the main reason it comes with decocker as opposed to safety, also the rail. For all-day-long carry they have P-01, that is a Police version of the gun, decocker and rail. Phantom may be just a revised version of SP-01 Tactical where Phantom seems to have different trigger guard (for flush accessories attachment?) and slide, not to mention the plymer... Glad I have Tactical thou :D

The P01 and SP01 are completely different animals. The P01 may be regarded as more of a compact carry pistol, whereas the SP01 was released a few years after the P01, and is not a derivative of it (although they all share a common ancestry in the CZ75).

SP01s come in both a decocker and safety version. I have both, and in my experience with my own and other peoples SP01's the trigger on the safety versions is much better.

Looks like a plastic version of Tactical and Shadow hybrid.

It might be a good gun for IDPA or carry.

But then again, if you want a light gun why not get USP, M&P or Glock.
At least USP or Glock have experience making plastic guns.

I think CZ will face a stiff competition in the "plastic" gun market.

They better make good frames and slides, otherwise the other guys
will bury them and the existing CZ "steel" sales will suffer.

:jerkit: Cant say im too excited about this one. I currently have the Shadow and absolutly love it. Some pistols should remain all steel construction and I think this would be one of them.

Evidently, it would make follow up shots harder to be accurate because of the reduced weight and with all the current options out there for the polymer frame pistols like Glock, M&P, Steyr MA1, SA XD, BUL, etc... I personaly would go for something that has been around for a while and has been proven, like the Glock for example.

The Shadow is a little on the heavy side but to consider it too heavy for LE or Military purposes I dont think its that bad. Especially considering theres alot of poeple who are devoted to and carry the 1911 Goverment which is bigger and as heavy if not heavier.

I dont know, just my 2 cents but as much a I understand why CZ would want to to make a polymer frame pistol to get a peice of that market, it just looks to be a cheaper version of the SP-01 Shadow, tactical etc... That being said, I wouldnt snicker to anyone wanting or buying one. Its just not my cup of tea.

Cheers

I was totally disapointed about this new plastic gun. It looks not much different with SP01, If people already have a SP01, most likely they won't buy one becasue of the same size except a bit lighter. at least I will perfer SP01 than this one.
