My CZ is grouping 3 inches to the left at 25 yards. I removed the retention bolts on the sights and banged on it with a hardwood dowel and the sights refuse to move. Any suggestions?

Better yet..experiment with your grip.

If I shoot with too loose a grip I consistently shoot 3-4 inches to the left.

Different tension with either your primary or support hand can move your POI.

You may need a sight pusher to move your rear sight. A friend of mine has one and when I adjusted mine it was the only way we were going to move the sight, it was that tight.

John makes a good point. Try bench resting your pistol before you go much further. It may be you not the gun. Start at 7 - 10 yards then go to 15.

Take Care

If you're a 1911 shooter then you may just need to put a little more finger onto the trigger. My own Shadow really likes me to put the trigger pretty much evenly between the end of my finger and the first knuckle or maybe a little more towards the knuckle. And 3 inches worth is the sort of error I get when I forget this simple little fact.

Try some dry firing while sighting. If you see the sights jump a little to the left then put a bit more of your finger through. When the trigger breaks from a double action cycle the gun should not move consistently to either side. Ideally it shouldn't move at all but the key is to correct for any significant favouring of one side over the other.

It is sitting on a locktight, so warm it up with a lighter and then use brass puncher, or better sight press.

BTW, have you checked your grouping from a bench rest? You need to make sure it is not you puling the gun aside.

This is a 9 round group at 25 yards with my cast lead loads from yesterday. I am pretty confident that it is not my sight alignment, trigger control or flinching that is causing the group to form 3 inches from the center of the target. It has been like this since I bought it. I could not knock the sights in place with a dowel, so I gave up and lived with it like that. I can still hold the A-Zone, but it bugs me that my sights are not perfectly regulated.

When we did Euxx's gun I couldn't believe how tight the sight was actually in there. Same issue as you are having and once we got it broken loose the group got centered no problem. Give it a little heat to break the locktight, chuck the slide in a padded vice, and drift it over with a suitable motivator. It will take a little elbow grease to get it moving.

One thing that might be handy; dab a little white-out into the dovetail, up against the edge of the actual sight on the side that you will be drifting away from. That way when it does begin to move, you'll be able to use the edge of the white-out as a reference point to tell how far you are drifting on every tap. Wipes up easily after wards with your favorite solvent.

Good luck

Jay, I have seen fewer more accurate shooters than you,...it is the gun. Don't baby that rear sight, it is meant to be abused. Smack it over.

I ended up buying a big brass punch, and I heated it up with a lighter, then whacked it with a maul eventually the sight moved over.

Thats good. I had the opposite experience with the shadow my son used in 2008, it would not stay in place.

Not trying to change the topic, but how tight are you running the overtravel on your trigger?
That can have an effect too.
