Hello, I'm wondering if anyone might know what objective size I can use on a 452 American with Talley low rings. I'm hoping to fit a Leupold 3-9x40.

Does anyone have a similar setup or advice? Thanks.

The ocular bell is often the limiting factor on a cz. I bet the objective will clear the barrel, but the bolt might be tight on the ocular with low rings...

I've made it work with leupold low rings on a 452 style, but had to mount the scope further back than was ideal, so the bolt stopped before the largest part of the ocular. Scope was a vx2 1-4.

As BeanKozi said, the bolt tends to be a factor as well. Leupolds tend to have slim ocular bells, compared to Nikon for instance. I've got a bunch of CZ's with scopes but don't have access to measure them right now. I do have a 3-9x33 on one and it is quite low. I'm sure the ocular is quite close to the 3-9 you are considering.

The Burris high rings are about 1/2" from the dovetail groove to the bottom of the ring. The leupold high are marginally higher.maybe 1mm. With a vortex scope the bolt wouldn't clear. I had to go to the Burris rings that have the moa inserts. They are listed as high also but are probably 3-4mm higher(going from memory)

These CZ rimfires have a good following on RFC and there is a great thread with several pages of ring/scope combos for people to explore ideas. I recently mounted a Burris Timberline 32mm scope on my CZ Ultralux using medium Burris Signature rings and it cleared the ocular and also was able to mount it behind the rear sight blade - which your American model doesn't have.

Good advice from others.....
The dovetail on the 452 American measures close to 13 mm across (the widest point). I use Leupold Rimfire 13 mm rings in medium (49947) that fit well. The distance between the top of the CZ dovetail to the bottom of the scope tube is 0.375 in. This set up accommodates a Leupold VX2 6-18X40 AO with about 0.020 clearance between the barrel and the AO ring. The bolt just clears the eye piece but wouldn't clear a VX1 or VX3 eye piece. I recall that a VX2 4-12X40 AO will not fit as the AO ring interferes with the barrel taper (the scope is shorter than the 6-18)

I found a set of Burris Deluxe medium rings here so will try them. They are a nice looking ring, even if a little bit heavy.

Thanks for all replies. Do you know what height the Burris rings are?

Burris Zee rings.
Lows or medium, your choice ...
The beauty of Leupold scopes is they are a tad longer in the body and give great eye relief.
The ocular end is much narrower than the other scope manufactures.
I can not give you all the technical reasons, but from first hand experience it has been one weaver .22 RimFire scope years ago to now only Leupold.
That works for me and is my opinion and experience.
Ymmv as will others and are free to agree/disagree.

I tried a Revenge 3-9x42 and while the objective cleared nicely, the
awwkewlar lense bell interfered with the bolt.
VX II 3-9x40 worked like it belonged on there.

I sure wish them CZ crowd would do sumting with their high flung bolt kah-nawbby.......................:sok2

That's the scope I've ordered. Do you recall what kind of rings you had?

I'm a "bricks and mortar" kind of guy when I can be, but the last few sets of rings I've bought have been WARNE, off of Amazon.ca. They can be had on there for less (I've paid about $35 or so) but these are the ones;

Used with success on Marlin, Anschutz, CZ and BRNO They do have a MED height, I think they're model 721...but check that.

Ask the Laddie in post #10, he should know better'n I.

Well, I thought they where Burris Zee rings, but was told I was wrong LOL.
So, they must have been the Leupold 11mm or where they the 3/8'' dovetail???
I must be going batz schitz nutz iffen I can not remember...
The trouble with the 452's are they can be one or the other...
OP order the Burris Zee rings and tell how they fit, matte finish Medium height.

I think the Zee rings are a Weaver mounting style and need an adapter that goes over the 3/8" dovetail to convert it. I have Burris Signature 3/8 dovetail rimfire rings in Medium height and will try those when the gun arrives.

Ear's ah foto awf thuh beest.

Hmmm, I do believe I have seen that 452 before ...
I see how your big mitts might be of some concern, but its a short and I do mean a short action and doesnt ask for a bit mitton to opens it and slide er forward.
Those are medium or low bases/rings?
The OP has some 3/8'' rings/bases on order it would appear I do stress there is a small chance he will need the 11mm.
I'm not promoting doom and gloom , but rather be prepared for some fiddeling and if they fit the first time around then thats even better !
Best Regards,
Rob
