Hey guys, I'm picking-up my new .17 HMR tomorrow :):):) and have been giving more thought/research to the scope I want for this rifle than I care to mention. I set-out the criteria~18x+ power, side focus, plain reticle/fine cross hairs, $300 budget, good online reviews...and came-up with the Mueller 8-32x44. Now, a TON of scope for a .17 HMR, but my goals include seeing how far away I can hit targets consistently. (and groundhogs inside of 150 yards  ) So, I've read everything on the "CZ ring" saga here, and have done some digging around RFC. On this site, Talley rings seem to be the top pick, on RFC, they lean towards the 11mm to Weaver adapter opening-up the ring options. I'm a "keep it simple" kind of guy and like the idea of the Talley ones. I emailed Talley with the gun/scope specs., they responded "CZ HIGH RINGS". Are they likely to be TOO high for a 44mm objective? I've always like the aesthetic of scopes that ride as low as possible, but I have fat cheeks and seem to like the way stocks with slightly lower "combs" (right term?) feel when looking through scopes. I know that the bolt can be an issue on CZ that have low scopes, so that's a consideration too.

I'm sure you've seen these adapters, but here is some photos that show the 452 Varmint wearing the scope I'm after, and a close-up of the adapter;

I think it looks pretty good..imagine the 3" sunshade on there? lol

The mount...

So, am I complicating things...or just "go" with the Talley HIGH rings? Anybody here have a 452 Varmint with these Talleys?

Thanks,
Rob

Just a point of clarification, the photos show the model of gun I bought, and the scope I'm thinking of getting. (this is someone else's set-up) I'd like to go "rings only", not this Weaver mount...just looking for some feedback on ring experience or maybe even photos of other 452 Varmints with 44mm objective scopes. What rings worked? Photos of high Talleys in place, etc.

Thanks,
Rob

I use Millet rings on my CZ 452 Varmint with a 5-15 x 40mm 3200 Elite Tactical..

Works well for me, with enough room for the bolt throw.

I had a 3x9 on my savage .17 an I couldn't see any of the impacts at 100 yards

I bought a barska 6x24x50 and what a diff, I keep it set at 18x power and at 100 yards its like its right there, and at 200 yards you can still clearly see hits

Looking at these rings too, just noticed that the Talley ones are for 1" tubes.

Anyone here ever used bkltech rings?

I'm not aware of anyone in Canada carrying them, got a hint?

In short: No, they sell direct to you no resellers involded in the transaction. They claim it is cheaper for us to buy from them then through a reseller.

Also this scope http://www.rapidreticle.com/17rim6x40.htm They also have in other caliber. They will ship to Canada.

I am about to buy a scope for a CZ 453 .17 HMR Varmint Fluted barrel. And a second for (yet to buy) CZ 452 Varmint .17 HM2. Decisions Decisions:confused::confused:

Update: I just got off the phone with them. No they dont ship to Canada and no one sells them here. :(

The simplest solution here is to call Clay at Prophet River - he carries Talley Rings and CZ rifles. He can tell you with a high degree of confidence what height you need.

If you go with the Mueller 8-32X44 I would do the Weaver adapter and the Burris Signature ZEE rings as shown in the pictures.

I mounted one on a CZ 527, with CZ Rings, and found that I had to do a major lap job. When I tightened the rings, before lapping, it put enough torque on the scope tube that the side focus parallax adj. knob became very hard to turn. Problem solved once rings were lapped. I was not the only one to run into this problem.
