CZ455 Canadian Edition -- Water Soluable Red Stain...

I too remember reading about someone who had the red dye run on their CZ455 Canadian a few years back on CGN as well.

I’ve never taken mine out in the rain before either....

I have always hunted and shot regardless of the weather (grew up on a farm); so for me having a rifle that only comes out on nice days is like leaving the 4 X 4 in the garage when it snows. A rifle shoots rain or shine; and I was born wet, so rain or not, if I want to shoot, I shoot LOL

I hunt in all weather too. Though, most time I’m hunting in inclement weather with my CZs, the precipitation is frozen and white.... ;)

I would take a wet paper towel and see if you can wipe some of the red onto it. Take some pictures and email them to Wolverine cz warranty center to see what they suggest.... It certainly looks like a factory escape and if I worked at cz I would certainly wanted to know about it.

Did not need to send pictures; awaiting their reply; from what they have told me, it may have to do with a particular process that was in place during a particular time frame. I have sent them the serial number to confirm, and am awaiting their reply.

I will update here, in case other may have the same issue.

Thanks! Looking forward to what they say. Wondering if mine will do that too if it gets wet?

Update:
Mine being made in 2015 is in the group that is affected. Both Tyler and David at Wolverine have been most gracious and helpful. At their request and that of CZUB I have filled out a warranty claim; and am free to cleanup and seal the existing stock so I can keep shooting in the interim. While I have only ever dealt with Wolverine once before, they have always been great communicators, helpful and fair. CZ has a great group of Ambassadors in Wolverine!

Nice! I’ll have to check mine tonight when I get home.

I have canceled my warranty claim with Wolverine...

I had way better results fixing the finish on the stock and preserving it’s original appearance (see below); warm water and an old tooth brush got all of the background die out in less than 1 minute; fore end and grip, both sides. After drying with the wife’s hair dryer (with her consent, I might add ;) ), I let it sit overnight. The following day, I brushed in and wiped off two coats of Minwax Ebony stain about two hours apart. I let sit overnight again, then brushed in a generous coat of minwax tongue-oil into the etching, then a light coat over the entire rifle. After 10 minutes, I wiped and then buffed it off. I will likely hit it with a coat of finishing wax in about a weeks time.

It looks as good as the day I pulled it out of the box.

I am most grateful for the very best kind of assistance anyone could ask for; Likewise, l can only praise and thank Tyler and David at Wolverine; and will be looking to give you more of my trade in the future!

Again, thanks, they and their company are a great credit to our sport!!

I have no idea where the photos went.

Good job on the re-finish, Meroh. Always satisfying to be able to take care of something yourself without the waiting involved in warranty claims.

Ask RabibM4U5 about CZ warranty in Canada.

We have CZ warranty in Canada? I can only hope the situation here has improved with Wolverine manning the post. While I have not dealt with Wolverine for a CZ warranty claim, the service I've received from them in a number of other dealings has been fantastic. I'm sure as long as the CZ Mothership supports Wolverine appropriately, they'll be a great warranty center. If accuracy is a concern, you're still out of luck if they can shoot a couple 1" groups at 50 yards. Seems I've been better off dealing with accuracy issues myself than any warranty or gunsmith service ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ If you think about the current state of affairs in Canada, do we have anyone who is a "Rimfire Guy"? I'm sure there's a bunch of people who can fit/chamber a barrel to an action, and pillar/bed a rifle, but the knowledge and interest in rimfire accuracy seems to stop there this side of the border. Honestly wouldn't expect any warranty center here (for any brand) to be knowledgeable about the details of rimfire accuracy. Replace a dud barrel, and make the rifle function mechanically would be about it, and all they signed up for.

Wolverine consulted with CZ; both Wolverine and CZ knew that this was a new rifle, but was bought by me, not from a dealer but from a 3rd party. They copied me in on the discussion with CZ; it was CZ that offered a new stock covered by warranty. IMO, CZ and Wolverine both did their part, and went above and beyond.

When I bought a new CZ 527 in 7.62x39 from Tenda I found a 3"+ crack running from the mag well bolt hole diagonally toward the for-end. When I contacted Tenda about it they hummed and hawed about it so I contacted CZ directly. The next day I was told to go to Tenda and pick up my new stock, which had even nicer tiger stripes that the original! (And CZ let me keep the old stock, which I repaired, bedded, and added brass pillars. It's now the "hunting" stock.)

Can't complain about service that good, that fast, so I bought a 455 as well.
