Just thought I'd share this for whatever it's worth . I have a CZ457 MTR that I've been testing now for a few weeks . Overall , I've not been particularly impressed with the accuracy . It would have moments of greatness followed by crap . Over and over . I've tried SK Standard Plus , SK Rifle Match , Center X , SK Biathlon , Polar Biathlon and CCI SV . No consistency whatsoever . I've tried action torque settings and improved the bedding and even a damper . No luck . Frustrating and disappointing as it's a beautiful rifle . I was telling another shooter that it just felt like there was a harmonic issue or something . Nothing helped .

So , I decided to go back to zero . I did an aggressive barrel clean with a bronze brush ( it gets cleaned after every use ) and as almost an afterthought , I thought I'd check the barrel torque . One screw was at about 60 in/lbs and the other was at about 10 in/lbs . Hmmm . I backed them both off and retorqued to 30 in/lbs . Assembled the rifle with the action at 25 in/lbs .
The light was low and there wasn't much time so I fired three , 5 shot groups back to back off a bipod with 2 different ammo . .350 , .360 , .390 . This is a huge improvement for this rifle . Three groups don't really prove anything , but , I would have never thought that the barrel screws could matter that much . Something for others to possibly check if they are struggling with CZ accuracy issues . You never know , it might help and it was free :) .

hondavtec.i was at our local range here one day just recently. I will tell you those 457 mtr shoot just fine. I witnessed it my self.that rifle shot tight groups at 100 yards .the shooter was using no fancy ammo . what barrel length do you have?

I've tried this rifle with and without cleaning . No difference . It has a 20.5" barrel . Today it shot like it's supposed to . For me , it's all about consistency . I don't expect miracles from it , I just want it to be repeatable with no unexplained fliers . It has not been so far . If it will be under .500@ 50 yards off a bipod every time , I'll be happy . Today , it did that . We'll see what happens on the next range trip . The weird factory grub screw torque might have had an effect . The next range trip will tell the tale .

For your consideration... Reshaping & polishing firing pin 457 https ://www.rimfirecentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1162011&highlight=reshape+firing+pin

I have no complaints from my CZ 457 MDT w/ 16" barrel but plan to do this mod myself.

Cheers

CZ rifles often have inconsistencies with barrel retention screws. Sometimes they're just right, but at other times they are either too loose or so tight that it can be very difficult to remove them. It's a good idea to check the torque of these screws as well as the action screws.

Stop cleaning after every use...maybe that's the source of inconsistency

Why do you think a clean bore would contribute to inaccuracy or inconsistency?
