CZ75 - Educate me.

One of my favourite pistols. And any Shadow I have tried always felt better...

i have seen people shooting Glock beat IPSC grand masters...
Shoot what you like.
Plastic, metal. They all work, practice is key.

Enjoy, it is one of the best pistols ever made.

Anything with Shadow or Shadowline in the name is great.

Though I do prefer the beaver tail of the 85 Combat. That's a great pistol too, but the hammer does cam over a bit, making the trigger less nice. Easily fixed with a Competition hammer or by carefully reducing the hooks on the stock one.

I detest the flat slabby aluminum grips of the Shadowline, which turns it into a 2x4, or Glock

Stock CZ rubber grips are great, but VZ Grips has come out with a palm swell version of their G10 grips that are heavenly. (Their previous flat G10 ones are glocky)

I'm a huge fan of VZ - I put that chit on everything.

If you want a target sight, Fusion Firearms is the LPA distributor in the US that will ship direct. They have a rear sight for the shadow that works with the existing front. Same sight as the 85Combat has. I've had one installed on my SP-01 and Shadowline both.

You don't "need" to do anything to any of them, you just need to decide which options you want and then purchase that model. Me, I opted for the CZ85 as it is just a 75 with ambi and adjustable sights FI front. Did I mention I LOVE THIS GUN.[/QUOTE
You. Ring up a good point, i am a lefty so will have to consider my options regarding that, guess i need to do a bunch of homework before throwing monet at something! Thanks folks!

Lower powered springs 11 lb recoil, 13 lb main spring, reduced power trigger pin cgw's floating trigger pin, extended firing pin and reduced power firing pin spring, Czc competition hammer, I've got a pre-b disconnector but I'd go with cgw's new improved short reset disco and a Cz 85c trigger.

Add a bunch of polishing and your set.

Thanks for this info. There is so much varied opinion around the net about these upgrades.

- If you change the main spring, do you have to change the firing pin spring?
- If you change the firing pin spring, do you need the extended firing pin?
- Is a recoil buffer required upon any spring change?

Only reason you change the firing pin spring is because you used the extended firing pin. Which is a pretty good way to get consistent ignition with a 13 lb main spring (5lb lighter than stock, harder primers like CCI will give unreliable ignition without extended pin.

Forget about a recoil buffer, one more thing to go wrong.

Sounds good to me

That makes sense. Right now I'm only firing the "low recoil" reloaded 9mm from FOC, so I don't think I need this quite yet. Are there any downsides/dangers in using an extended firing pin?

Hey, handgun folks.

I've never liked double-stack nines very much. Everything I've ever put a hand to in that realm felt like grabbing a multi-bit screwdriver or a fencepost. Clunky, awkward, wrong. And then, the other day, I had cause to put my hands on a CZ.

The clouds parted.

The sun shone down.

A clear voice spoke, from everywhere and nowhere all at once. It said "My son, too long have you walked the earth in pursuit of something that eats 9mm ammunition and doesn't feel bad in your hands. Thou hast laid thine grubhooks on My pistol, the CZ. Thou shalt buy one posthaste, lest my wrath be great and quick in coming."

And so, commanded by God himself, I find myself planning to drop money on a Czech pistol. But I realize I know so little. Pre-B? Post-B? I am ignorant in the ways of the CZ. Please, hivemind, get this poor pilgrim up to speed.

Thanks,

Dan

That wasn't the voice of God, that was the combined voice of the KouÄŤtĂ brothers.

I've owned a Pre-B in the 1980s (back then they were just "CZ75s") and more recently an SP01 and Shadow, and just last year picked up a Pre-B for nostalgia's sake. The older ones do have a better trigger reset than the B models but the B's aren't bad. The sights on the originals are a little small but better than I remembered. The Shadow's SA trigger (and I'm guessing the Shadow 2) is similar (probably better...I haven't shot one for a few years). The CZ85 Combat also has no block (but weirdly (for its name) has adjustable sights, which I don't usually like on a pistol that's not used for bullseye shooting). The "Special Edition" stainless model stuck me as one of the more attractive versions, although it's not cheap.

Here's my old beast

Started with a Pre-B back in "84, had it fitted with milled in rear sight and front/ back strap checking, added a trigger stop, commander style hammer, absolutely amazingly reliable, only problems has with mags (after fixing them to 10 rounds) but fixed now. I have changed a couple of springs just because! Still have old springs as spare. Shoot IPSC, IDPA and now OPDL. Lots of rounds and still accurate and reliable.
Picked up a '85 recently, love it as well.

Love my old beast, pre B, only thing I did to it was put a touch of whiteout on the front site. Just wish I could find more mags for her.

Just ordered the shadow 1 from sfrc 10% sale, comes to $810 plus tax,and free shipping! Where is a good place to GEt extra Mags, sfrc doesnt have any?

Same boat here.
First time I wrapped my hands around one it was like it had been missing for a lifetime and finally returned. Knew I had to have one and I'll never sell....

First was a pre-B, Loved it apart from the rather large adjustable sights installed by the orig owner to shoot bulls eye.
Traded it for a 85C, and haven't looked back.

Once you have owned a CZ you won't be without one.

Now.... If I could only find a short slide 75.. It's bucket list item.

Nice! I saw a full matte finish at my favourite store a couple of months ago.
New release and I was himing and hawing. Went back 4 days later and it was gone and back ordered!
I'd say "let us know how it performs" but it's a given.....
